About KU Kogarah Children's Centre

Welcome to KU Kogarah Children's Centre!

At KU Kogarah Children's Centre, we provide high quality early education and care to children whose families are employed by St George Bank, Westpac and BT Financial. Additionally, there is now the capacity to take community enrolments for positions that are not filled by St George and Westpac employees.

We promote a play-based approach to learning, allowing children to guide their own learning and discovery, with support from our team of educators to facilitate the process. Our program caters for the strengths and interests of individual children, as well as those engaged in small groups.

Our centre is a welcoming and nurturing space where each child is immersed in a rich tapestry of educationally interactive experiences – a space where children are supported to be their own, unique selves, growing and developing a sense of belonging and empowerment.

Building close partnerships with families is very important to us and we believe that a child’s family is their most important influence. Our open-door policy invites families into our centre to share their child’s experiences and we welcome their input into our service and program.

In addition to the high-quality well-rounded programs we offer, all KU centres are also encouraged to develop an area of specialisation.
At KU Kogarah Children's Centre, we specialise in cultural competence and inclusion.

We incorporate this into our program through our cultural program – which includes the continuous learning of new cultural traditions, and honouring differences.

We feel that the children benefit from this specialisation, because our centre and families are multi-cultural and it encourages all of us to learn about each other’s cultures and also encourages respect and inclusion.

Centre philosophy

Childhood

We recognise childhood as a special time in itself; a time for all children to be immersed in secure and trusting environments that allow them to explore, play, discover and learn. We nurture the development of identity, confidence and capability which form the foundations of a lifelong love of learning. We ensure the voices of children contribute to the work that we do and the decisions we make.

Integrity & Relationships

We act with honesty, openness and consistency. Our relationships are respectful, mutual and reciprocal and are built on trust, authenticity and ethical behaviour. We welcome feedback and make decisions that are responsible and fair.

Leadership

We are driven by the passionate pursuit of quality early childhood education and encourage others to share that journey. We lead by example, drawing on our experience and knowledge to shape early childhood education thinking, policy and practice.

Innovation

We have the courage to pursue bold visions of the future. We are committed to continual professional learning and organisational development. We collaborate and explore new ideas and different ways of thinking.

Sustainability

We acknowledge and consider both our heritage and our future. We embrace our responsibilities within the world around us – to our children and communities, our people, our environments and the long term sustainability of our organisation.

Diversity & Inclusion

We recognise that everyone has their own culture, beliefs, values and strengths contributing to our rich and diverse community. We embrace, advocate for, and invest in the rights of all children to access and actively participate in our programs and have a sense of truly belonging.

Programs

Programs

The KU program provides the children with a range of different activities and experiences to support their learning. From gardening to arts and crafts, music, movement and literacy, numeracy and scientific concepts, the program helps to build the children’s confidence as capable and active learners.

KU Kogarah Children’s Centre also has a specialist cultural competence and inclusion program. The children learn about cultural traditions and celebrate the multicultural tapestry of the centre.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

The KU curriculum includes a mix of large and small group experiences that help to build the children’s leadership and communication skills. Through interactive and hands-on activities, the children develop a sense of their unique selves and a feeling of belonging.

The curriculum aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework and the preschool program helps to prepare the children for the transition to school. The educators invite participation, research, inquiry and exploration from the children so they can drive their own learning and develop important critical thinking skills.

I’m really disappointed with how this childcare centre handled my child’s enrolment. We were approved for three days a week, which we were very happy about. However, shortly after confirming this, I received an email saying they no longer had availability for Tuesday — one of the days we had already organised care for. This has caused unnecessary stress and has made it difficult to plan work and family commitments. I expected better communication and reliability, especially when it comes to something as important as childcare for my child. I hope the centre improves how they manage their bookings and communicates changes to families in a more timely and professional way.

Response from the owner 10 Jul 2025

Hi Feris, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We understand how important reliable care arrangements are for families, and are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your enrolment experience. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience further and how we can improve. Please reach out to us at childrensservices@ku.com.au and provide contact details, so we can follow up with you directly.
