The teachers in this school are amazing, so supportive and gentle. They not only put wonderful care into my daughter’s education and care but they also care about my entire family and are so kind. I’m so thankful for the education and friendship my daughter as received here.

About KU Bilya Gulyangarri Preschool

KU Bilya Gulyangarri goes beyond childcare. We create a safe and nurturing environment where childhood is celebrated.

We are proud of our longstanding reputation within the local community of providing inclusive education and care tailored to each child’s needs in a family-focussed and supportive way.

Our highly experienced and dedicated teachers and educators build strong, trusting relationships with each child, fostering a sense of belonging and confidence.

Bilya Gulyangarri, meaning “place of laughing children” in Dharug language, offers a bright and inviting indoor environment and expansive playground shaded by majestic gum trees.

When children play and explore, their imagination and curiosity are sparked – they enjoy learning and are inspired to continue learning more.

Our play-based program intentionally provides a wide range of engaging opportunities and activities based on the Early Years Learning Framework.

We engage with our local Indigenous Community through cultural experiences and relationships with local Elders, developing children’s understanding of Aboriginal Culture and Country. We also foster an appreciation for the natural environment through enriching experiences in our large outdoor area.

KU Bilya Gulyangarri has been independently assessed by the NSW Department of Education and are proud to be rated as Exceeding the National Quality Standard.

Director Anita Andrews is a university qualified early childhood teacher with over 25 years’ experience working with young children. She has worked on Dharug and Gundungarra country for most of her career. Anita has extensive experience in inclusion and nature pedagogy. She has been working at KU Bilya Gulyangarri since 2022.

Childhood

We recognise childhood as a special time in itself; a time for all children to be immersed in secure and trusting environments that allow them to explore, play, discover and learn. We nurture the development of identity, confidence and capability which form the foundations of a lifelong love of learning. We ensure the voices of children contribute to the work that we do and the decisions we make.

Integrity & Relationships

We act with honesty, openness and consistency. Our relationships are respectful, mutual and reciprocal and are built on trust, authenticity and ethical behaviour. We welcome feedback and make decisions that are responsible and fair.

Leadership

We are driven by the passionate pursuit of quality early childhood education and encourage others to share that journey. We lead by example, drawing on our experience and knowledge to shape early childhood education thinking, policy and practice.

Innovation

We have the courage to pursue bold visions of the future. We are committed to continual professional learning and organisational development. We collaborate and explore new ideas and different ways of thinking.

Sustainability

We acknowledge and consider both our heritage and our future. We embrace our responsibilities within the world around us – to our children and communities, our people, our environments and the long term sustainability of our organisation.

Diversity & Inclusion

We recognise that everyone has their own culture, beliefs, values and strengths contributing to our rich and diverse community. We embrace, advocate for, and invest in the rights of all children to access and actively participate in our programs and have a sense of truly belonging.

Programs

Programs

The KU program provides the children with a range of different activities and experiences to support their learning. From gardening to arts and crafts, music, movement and literacy, numeracy and scientific concepts, the program helps to build the children’s confidence as capable and active learners.

At KU Bilya Gulyangarri, they have strong connections with the Indigenous Community and nurture relationships with local Elders. The children also learn about the natural environment and sustainability through the centre vegetable gardens, worm farm and compost area.

Safety

Safety

At KU, every child’s voice is heard and every child’s safety is our top priority. KU has a zero tolerance of abuse or harm to children. Our policies ensure robust child safe practices and a strong child safe culture; we embed the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, also known as the Child Safe Standards, across the organisation and within all KU services and programs.

Since opening our first service in 1895, KU has led the way in early education in Australia. We were the first provider to introduce a full-time Child Safe Manager, and our dedicated Child Safe and Wellbeing team guides and oversights the embedding of child safe practice across the organisation.

KU’s recruitment processes have a strong child safe focus, including pre-employment screening and referee checks. All staff have a current and verified Working with Children Check (WWCC) and are required to attend Child Safe and Wellbeing training every 12-24 months. Our teachers and educators’ dedication and expertise shine through in the quality of our services, with over 68% rated Exceeding or Excellent under the National Quality Standard – far above the sector average.

At KU, we go beyond childcare. We ensure the voices of children contribute to the work that we do and the decisions we make.
