About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years

Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.

Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Kindergarten year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Our centre offers seasonal whole food-based menus – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Meet the team

Meet the team

Meet our Centre Manager, Kelly.

I began my career in early childhood education and care 2012, I have enjoyed working directly with children. My passion for early education flourished, supporting our children in their learning and development, and watching them grow is incredibly rewarding.

I hold a Certificate 3 and a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and am also trained in Child Protection and First Aid. I believe children are individuals in their learning and development, each and everyone with their own unique personality and way of doing things. I believe as educators it is our role to build a positive relationship with each child so that we can discover who they are and how they learn best.

During my 10 years of experience in the sector, I have worked across all age groups in varying roles. I joined the sector as a trainee, where the foundation of my passion for early learning began.  I have challenged myself to grow professionally throughout my career and have gained experience managing a high performing Early Learning Centre. I am excited for this new journey as the Centre Manager for Great Beginnings Canning Vale, bringing along my passion, dedication and years of experience to support myself and my team to create a safe, nurturing home away from home for your littles ones to grow and flourish.

Each and every day I am inspired by the little people who wonder through our doors. Our children are the leaders of the future, and I have a passion for providing a high-quality care and education with endless opportunities for learning through play and discovery. I believe in a hands-on play-based learning approach, an Early Learning journey tailored to each child needs, ensuring an all-inclusive diverse environment for our littles ones to succeed.

Your child’s learning journey will thrive at our dedicated early childhood service, with a devoted and qualified team, your child will be enriched with endless opportunities for growth, for learning, and for building lasting friendships. Our service is a home away from home, an extended family, and a safe and secure environment for your child to reach their full potential.

We believe it is essential to build strong and reciprocal relationships with our families, at Great Beginnings Canning Vale you can expect transparency and strong communication from our team. We're only a few weeks into our daycare journey or as our son puts it "Oli's special school" but the support on starting and getting our son settled has been incredible. Everyone is welcoming and easy to talk to. Our son talks about his educators and even says that they're his best friends 🥹 Trine is on another level! How she remembers everyone's names I have no idea. Big shout out to her for being a ray of sunshine first thing in the morning ☀️🌞

Great beginnings has been an absolute amazing experience for the past 3 months of my son attending. Trine and Kelly are honestly awesome with amazing communication and so accommodating! The educators are also so helpful and supportive, always willing to do the best for our children! I’ve just recently started working again and had to switch my days around a few times to which they have been so understanding and accommodating. My sone Archie also loves being there including asking everyday to attend daycare to see his lovely friends and family educators (especially Van)! P.s the food is AMAZING. Thank you so much to these lovely lady’s making our days and weeks easy and welcoming! 🥰

My little one has been attending Great Beginnings Canningvale for over a year, since the centre opened. It was initially daunting dropping him but he settled in within weeks and now loves going to the centre to the point of wanting to go on weekends. The educators and managers are attentive, always listens to my concerns, act on it and give me feedback. They always update me on my little one's progress, not only through the app but in person when they have any concerns or issue. The educators are amazing and they always look out for my litte one's interest and build play based learning on it, which then gets practised at home to my amusement. There's genuine care for the little ones by the educators and i am very happy that my little one is thriving at Great Beginnings Canning Vale.
