We believe that your child's early years are foundational in their lives. We aim to provide a stimulating program for your child within a caring, safe and happy environment that gives them every opportunity to develop as young people and members of the broader community.

While “family” is the first and most significant influence on the development of any child, our centre aims to complement the role of the family by listening to them and including them as a key part of our centre's community.

Our programs focus on helping the children to develop in six key areas, being physical growth, social adjustment, emotional growth, mental growth and development, speech and language ... and including their own specific interests. 

Learning programs start at the very beginning and are tailored to be age (and individual) appropriate.

In addition, our service offers an accredited preschool program that is funded by the NSW Government. Start Strong funding covers additional resources, incursions and learning resources. Our director Maria Walsh is currently the room leader for preschool aged children.

Our educators work with each child to further build on their interests and skills in developmentally appropriate ways. 

The Garfield Street Children’s Centre curriculum covers all areas of early learning, including mathematics, music and movement, science and nature, and art and drama. 

The educators understand that there are opportunities to learn in everyday moments so include a mix of planned and unstructured learning in the curriculum. 

Our educators are professional, experienced and open to trying and implementing new ideas.

Many of our educators have been working at the centre for more than a decade, which creates consistency and familiarity for the children and their families. Our educators also come from a variety of backgrounds and speak a range of different languages which helps them to connect with different ethnic communities and to foster an inclusive environment.
