What is “Jolly Phonics”?
It’s essentially a special teaching and ‘discovery’ approach that helps children develop their reading skills and a lifelong love of reading.
Founded back in 1987, its methodologies and materials are popular in over 100 countries on 5 continents for teaching literacy and music skills. In some countries, the government has made Jolly Phonics a matter of formal and required education policy.
How does it work?
The program encourages learning by linking specific sounds to letters – a process that’s technically called “phonics”. That linking is achieved through stories, play, singing and crafts.
As a child becomes more confident in the technique, they discover how to experiment by ‘sounding out’ words in advance. This is the first step on the road towards independent reading.
However, Jolly Phonics isn’t just ‘by-rote’ teaching. It uses examples that are just good fun activities and also multi-sensory.
Does it work?
Jolly Phonics is proven to be effective. Various studies have shown that it’s an invaluable aid in learning to read and provides children with a significant advantage in the earliest days of their formal education.
Many experts believe that Jolly Phonics is one of the most effective ways to assist in children developing reading and writing skills in English.

In addition to being a certified “Jolly Phonics Trainer” with a wealth of industry experience, our Centre Director, Chelsea has a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care 0-8. Chelsea has many years of experience operating prestigious Early Learning Centres. Chelsea was pivotal in the opening of both Read 2 Grow Nollamara and Read 2 Grow Dayton.
Denelle is our Assistant Director at Read2Grow Dayton. You will see Denelle's warm and friendly face every morning as she welcomes you into the service.
To guarantee that the right credentials are acquired and your child receives the best care possible in line with our values, all staff members go through a rigorous interview process, including interviews and reference checks, Working with Children Checks and National Police Clearances.
We know parents expect their children to have fun in Kindy and that’s our core objective too!
However, in addition to diversion and enjoyment, our focus in Kindy is providing a foundation platform for children’s later success in primary education.
As a result, the day is structured but we avoid rigidity and over-regimentation. Our focus is one letter sound per week. Kids love our participatory games with things like whiteboards and during that, they’ll continue to expand their word and number recognition.
You can add our arts and crafts plus our broad school readiness program into that potpourri. The result is that every week is jam-packed and adventure-filled.
Our aim is to get the children school ready, but have fun while doing so!

Absolutely wonderful daycare! I can’t speak highly enough of this daycare and the amazing team who run it. I was so nervous at first (first daycare experience for me as a mum), but everyone made me feel completely at ease from day one. The staff are kind, professional, and genuinely care about the children. Every team member I’ve interacted with has been lovely, but I want to give a special mention to Sharfaa, who is caring, gentle, and such a delight to talk to. Read2Grow Dayton has exceeded our expectations so far. We have visited few daycare centres before enrolling our baby and the atmosphere at Read2Grow Dayton felt great and inviting. Above all, it is a new centre with new equipment and toys. The centre is always clean and tidy and staff are amazing with a lot of patience! It is always good to see top management present at the centre to oversee day to day operations. The daily updates and photos are a great bonus and it's clear they put a lot of care and time into planning activities. Highly recommend to any parents looking for a safe and nurturing environment.

10/5 Stars – Couldn’t Be Happier We looked at about five different day cares for our daughter, and Read 2 Grow in Dayton was the one that truly stood out. From the start, the kids were engaged, happy, and so well looked after. Six months on, my 3-year-old actually asks to go on weekends because she loves it that much! The staff are fantastic and genuinely caring, and the owners are on site, friendly, and clearly invested in the kids’ wellbeing. On mornings when my daughter feels upset at drop-off, she is immediately scooped up into her educator’s arms for comfort, and I leave knowing she’s going to be just fine. That kind of reassurance is priceless. The program itself is amazing — they’re already doing phonics and helping the kids learn the building blocks of reading, along with a huge variety of activities. Parents get daily photos and reports, which makes it easy to stay connected with what the kids are learning and experiencing. The center is brand new and filled with top-notch equipment — even the little three-wheel trikes are worth $1,400 each! It’s rare in life to find something that not only meets expectations but exceeds them in every way, but Read 2 Grow has done exactly that. If you’re looking for a daycare where your kids will be safe, happy, learning, and loved — get in while there are still spots left. This place is a gem.
