Safety

Safety

Safety matters every day.
Every day, safety comes first at Nido. Across all our early schools, we work tirelessly to uphold the highest standards in safety. This commitment underpins every decision we make and every interaction we have with children and families.

We have embedded the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations across all our practices to ensure safe behaviours, environments, and accountability are part of everything we do.

Strong supervision and ongoing training
All Educators participate in an 8-week active supervision program, along with regular training and safety alerts. This ensures teams are vigilant, responsive, and prepared for every situation.

Safe design, technology and electronic devices
Our early school layouts are designed for maximum visibility and supervision. CCTV is installed externally at most of our early schools to enhance security. For the protection of all children, the use of personal devices to take photos or videos of children is prohibited for all Nido team members, students, volunteers, and visitors.

Rigorous recruitment and compliance
Our recruitment process includes enhanced screening, comprehensive reference checks, and clear expectations around child safety. Working with Children Checks are strictly managed and continuously monitored.

Professional learning and guidance
Educators receive regular training through leading Registered Training Organisations. Policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current legislation and best practice, ensuring everyone understands the behaviours and standards expected.

Comprehensive health and safety
We maintain secure single-point entry systems, and our staff are trained in first aid, asthma, anaphylaxis care, and food safety. We follow strict medication management protocols, a Cancer Council-accredited Sun Smart policy, and promote hygiene through engaging activities. Our schools take allergies seriously, including nut awareness, to help keep every child safe and included at mealtimes. Any incidents are documented and promptly communicated with families.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

Nido Early School understands that no one knows a child like their family. The service actively engages with parents and family members to ensure children have the very best care.

The team works with family members at enrolment and also regularly seeks updates on children’s schedules and current interests. This helps them to develop tailored programs that meet individual educational, physical, cultural and emotional needs.

Parents are welcome to chat with staff at drop off and pick up, and to contact the team at any stage via phone, email or the service’s ‘Playground’ App. The service regularly sends updates on children’s progress, and photos and videos of children during play and learning activities.

With an ‘open door policy’, parents are welcome to join in activities and events, and to share breakfast with children at the popular breaky bar.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

The curriculum at Nido Early School is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach and aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework. Designed to support the children in the early years and as they prepare for the transition to school, the curriculum is play-based and engaging.

The curriculum is delivered in three stages:

Nursery (6 weeks to 18 months)

In the nursery, the children are nurtured as they develop early connections with their educators. They read stories, play and explore the world around them.

The children start to develop their sense of identity and understand that they are part of a broader community. They start to explore their feelings and emotions and also try new things. Developing early communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal is also a big focus for the children in this age group.

Toddlers (18 months to 3 years)

The educators encourage the toddlers to develop their independence and autonomy. They have opportunities to build their social skills and early friendships while also learning to regulate their emotions.

As the children take safe risks in their learning, the educators also encourage their problem solving skills. Self-expression and communication are also important.

Kindergarten (3 years to school)

The Kindergarten curriculum helps to prepare the children for the big transition to big school. The children have a strong sense of self and understand their role in the community. They participate in peer activities and understand their own emotions.

They are always questioning how things work and practising their verbal and listening skills as strong communicators.

Had such a good experience with this centre. My boy has been enrolled since 7 months old, was somewhat late to start walking and now as a 2 year old, he's thriving. He's developed so many vital skills, the staff are excellent and the facilities are great. If you raise an issue, staff do their best to support you and your child's needs. Of course there's the unavoidable bugs but I would highly recommend this centre to other parents.

Our daughter started at Nido Dayton at 18 months old, after it first opened. She is now 4 and we have had nothing but excellent experiences with her education here. The educators and staff are exceptional, they have helped nurture her at every stage. With each classroom she has loved her educators. It helped initially with smooth drop offs, she made great friends that we still see outside of Nido for playdates. Each parent has told me how happy they have been with their experiences too. I love that we have been able to meet with educators to hear how our daughter is developing, identifying where any strengths and weaknesses lie. The celebration afternoons for Mother’s Day etc are so fun, with the parents and caregivers being invited to come for snacks and do crafts with the kids. The educators have been a help in the toilet training process and go the extra mile to teach the pre-school curriculum, giving our daughter confidence when she started kindy. The facilities are always so clean, looked after. We love the art room and dining area as well as beautiful outdoor play spaces with landscaping and areas to explore. Inside, the kids have a rotation of toys and educational equipment. Overall, I could not recommend this Nido enough and look forward to sending our other daughter here soon.

Our 4 yr old has been attending Nido Dayton about a year now. We couldnt be happier with how he has been supported here. The educators are patient kind and very competent. Its great for our son that the educator turn over here is so low. It has enabled him to bond well with the educators and he has made amazing progress since coming here. We did try a couple of the other local centres but our son did not warm to those like he warms to Nido Dayton. It is very clean and modern. Special mention to the manager Eleanor. She is very experienced, pleasant to deal with and always available if we need her to discuss something. 5 stars.
