About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years

Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.

Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Kindergarten year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Our centre offers seasonal whole food-based menus – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi my name is Leanne, and I am the Centre Manager here at Great Beginnings Aveley. I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2001 and started working at Great Beginnings Aveley in 2015. I hold a Degree in Early Childhood Education.

I take great pride in my role and I am proud to be a part of our children’s early stages of learning. I have two children of my own who teach me new things daily and make me appreciate how fascinating life is in the eyes of a child.

All childcare centres, including our centre, use the foundation of play-based learning to guide our experiences every day. With access to a range of age-appropriate learning resources, trained educators, and new experiences among friends, we set children up to thrive in an environment that is dedicated to learning. Children develop their curiosity, problem-solving, confidence and resilience at our centre, and we carefully plan play-based learning experiences around their interests and learning goals. Over time, you will see your child develop abilities such as language, motor movement, memory, concentration and social relationships all by partaking in these experiences - it's a truly incredible journey to witness!

I strongly believe that children learn through play, exploration, and educators’ influences. Within our centre we strive to ensure that children are offered a wide variety of stimulating activities and have an equal balance of child initiated and adult-led play. Our team is extremely passionate about creating a centre that is a home away from home for both families and children where our team celebrates the diversity of all cultures.

The best part of my job is the team – they are so committed and positive about their role as educators. Everyone is supportive, enthusiastic, and completely dedicated each and every day Our centre is continuously developing, we are working hard to ensure that all our environments are to the highest of standards. All our children are made to feel happy, secure and have a strong sense of belonging. We ensure that all children are always kept safe. Our environments are age-appropriate and all our educators are vigilant of health and safety within our centre.

The children are truly cared for and there is a strong sense of belonging with our centre. We offer parents coffee during the morning drop off to save time. We have baked treats twice a week, community pantry, as well as fresh eggs from our chickens. We believe strong relationships are built from the first tour. This is through a great deal of communication, understanding and empathy of how difficult it can be for a parent when their child starts childcare. Our team are happy to answer any enrolment questions you have so please reach out to us.

We look forward to welcoming your family to Great Beginnings Aveley.

Terrible place with horrible staff... When my son attended, they'd left a poopy nappy on him for so long it burnt his skin, badly enough he was not able to walk! As expected, I was so upset and angry, when I confronted them they lacked any accountability. On another occasion he ran into one of the poles in the yard, and had a visible bruise on his forehead. As the worker explained what had happened she laughed. Worst day care ever.

Response from the owner 15 May 2025

Dear Rachael, we are truly sorry to hear about your experience and the concerns you’ve raised. The safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every child in our care is our highest priority, and we take feedback of this nature extremely seriously. We understand how upsetting it must have been to see your child in discomfort, and we apologise if you felt your concerns weren’t heard or addressed appropriately at the time. We are also very sorry to hear you felt that a team member’s response lacked the empathy that every family deserves. This does not reflect the standard of care we aim to uphold. If you are open to discussing this further, please feel free to contact our Family Care Team at familycare@greatbeginnings.com.au Kind regards, The Great Beginnings Team

Center was great for our son from 10 months old to 4 years old. Staff were friendly. The older rooms needed a better daily update on the app.

Response from the owner 12 Jun 2024

Hi Alara, We are so grateful for your kind words. Thanks for sharing your review with us and the community. If we can improve in any way, please let us know by contacting familycare@greatbeginnings.com.au. Kind regards, The Great Beginnings Team.
