About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years

Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.

Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Kindergarten year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Our centre offers seasonal whole food-based menus – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi, my name is Julia, and I am the Centre Manager at Great Beginnings Gosnells. I use play-based learning, open-ended questioning, and positive reinforcement to encourage critical thinking, creativity, and independence.

I have been working in early childhood education since 1995 and joined Great Beginnings Gosnells in 2026. Throughout my career, I have worked across early learning centres, schools, and educational leadership roles, most recently as a college Principal. What continues to inspire me is seeing the positive impact that quality education and strong relationships can have on children’s lives.

Over the years, I have learned that every child is unique and learns best when they feel safe, valued, and supported. Children are naturally curious and learn best through play, exploration, positive relationships, and meaningful interactions with adults and peers. This guides my child-centred approach, where I focus on building strong relationships, following children’s interests, and creating inclusive learning environments that encourage curiosity, confidence, and independence. I use play-based learning, open-ended questioning, and positive reinforcement to encourage critical thinking, creativity, and independence.

My passion is helping children develop the confidence, resilience, and love of learning they need to thrive. I believe in creating nurturing environments where children feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to explore, take on challenges, and celebrate their achievements. I see my role not just as an educator, but as a guide and advocate who helps each child reach their full potential.

Early learning centres complement the valuable learning that takes place at home by providing structured, play-based experiences, social opportunities, and intentional teaching that support children’s development across all areas. These experiences help children build confidence, independence, and important skills for future learning. Our team is made up of passionate and experienced educators who are dedicated to nurturing and inspiring children every day. Together, we create a welcoming environment where children and families feel supported and valued.

Building strong partnerships with families is very important to me. I focus on open communication, genuine relationships, and working collaboratively with families to support each child’s learning, wellbeing, and development.

I just want to give the biggest shoutout to Julia, the manager of Great Beginnings at Gosnells. She is an amazing manager and the centre hasn’t been this great before. Julia runs the centre with so much care, organisation and heart. She really listens to families, supports her staff, and makes sure every child feels safe and valued. You can tell how much she cares just by stepping through the doors — the whole place feels warm, welcoming and professional.
A special mention also to Morsal, the room leader educator in the babies room. Morsal is so loving, patient and attentive with the little ones. My baby is always happy, settled and engaged, and I love the updates and photos we get. It’s clear she puts so much effort into making the babies room a nurturing and fun space.
Between Julia’s leadership and educators like Morsal, Great Beginnings Gosnells has become an incredible place for children to learn and grow. We feel so lucky to be part of this centre!

She is approachable, organised, and always willing to listen and support families whenever needed. Her qualifications and experience in early childhood is top notch. It’s clear that the whole team works together to provide the best possible care and experience for the children.

We are very grateful to all the educators and management at GB Gosnells for everything they do. Highly recommended! Our children couldn’t be happier!

There seems to be a lack of communication with parents before concerns are escalated further. There also appears to be a lack of understanding around what should actually be reported versus what can be considered normal, age-appropriate behaviour.

I believe further training would be beneficial in helping educators understand and support children experiencing challenging behaviours, as well as working collaboratively with families. Concerns should be appropriately documented, discussed with families and supported through suitable strategies before being unnecessarily escalated to the Department when behaviours may be developmentally appropriate.

More focus on communication, professional judgement, behaviour guidance and supporting families would be greatly beneficial.

Would not recommend this daycare to anyone. The lack of care the centre manager has it so unprofessional, getting her husband involved with personal matters. The lack of care she has for the children in her centre. I use to recommend this daycare to everyone. Until this new centre manager started. Be careful, do not send items in that you don't want stolen- not once, not twice but three times.
