We toured the centre in April 24 and were told that the centre was being renovated and all play areas were being updated and made safer… it’s now December and only the street facing play areas have been updated. After touring we were meant to receive a welcome pack and further instructions… I had to contact via email and call multiple times to get the information we needed. We provided our direct debit form with specific instructions that weren’t followed and all the Director said was ‘sorry I forgot’. We regularly collected our son to find no one could provide details on his naps or bottles, we were told to collect him because he had a temperature but upon checking several times once we got home he never had a temperature as they had said. We were also told he had hand foot and mouth once and had to collect him but it was nothing of the kind and the dr was surprised. There are so many random casual staff there but the Full Time nursery Educator was still struggling to provide the basic information even though they have so many staff, there is no continuity and the staff seem unhappy and not engaged. On 3 occasions I personally had to pick up live cockroaches off the nursery room floor and take them outside. The food is questionable and the ‘rotating’ menu printed on the kitchen door never matched what my son was recorded eating and I’m concerned of the ingredients and quality as my son didn’t have a solid stool the entire time he was enrolled which isn’t the case at his new childcare. It is my understanding that it is a requirement that ANY changes to the food/menu parents are meant to be notified. Their admin and organisation are well below standard, the Storypark entries are a joke and provide no insight or feedback on activities and their development goal/outcome. Prior to withdrawing our son the centre had a push for parents to fill out and complete a series of different form and introduced some kind of learning outcomes just in time for their head office visit. This centre need a lot of work on all levels especially considering the local centres nearby are of a greater standard for the same cost and they provide formula as part of the fees where una charges more and doesn’t provide any. The Storypark reports are sad and inconsistent and not informative. Some reports would only say things like ‘it was really hot today so we played inside’ but doesn’t provide any information on activities and their aim or learning outcomes. The ratings in the KindiCare App are NOT government endorsed they are private ratings and not recognised by the dept. of education and mean absolutely nothing to the care or your child or quality of the centre.

Response from the owner 09 Dec 2025

Hi Kate, Thank you sincerely for taking the time to share such detailed feedback with us. I am truly sorry to hear that this has been your experience at Una Albany Creek. Your concerns are important, and I want to acknowledge how upsetting and frustrating this must have been for you and your family. We never want a parent to feel disappointed or lose confidence in our service, and I genuinely appreciate you bringing all of this to our attention. Please know that we take every concern seriously, and I would like to respond openly and respectfully to the areas you have raised. I apologise that the renovation timeline did not align with your expectations and that communication during this time did not feel clear. When we began the outdoor works, families were informed that the project would occur in two phases, with Stage 2 to be completed after other planned upgrades. We apologise your payment instructions were not followed correctly. This should have been processed accurately, and we will be reviewing this process with the team. I genuinely appreciate you sharing your concerns about daily communication in the nursery. Our Nursery team are experienced, well-trained educators who take pride in providing nurturing care, so it is disappointing to hear that the communication you received did not reflect this. It appears that some of what you experienced may have stemmed from miscommunication rather than a lack of skill or care from the educators, and we will be reviewing how information is shared with families to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy at all times. I am also sorry to hear about the occasions where health notifications did not align with later medical assessments. I understand how stressful and disruptive this would have been. We will be ensuring documentation and monitoring practices are strengthened so families receive accurate information. While the centre is professionally cleaned each evening and undergoes a deep clean every Saturday, this is absolutely not an experience any family should encounter. As part of our compliance requirements, pest control is conducted every six months. On occasion, doors being open can contribute to pests entering the service, but we will still be reviewing this with the leadership team to ensure all measures are being followed. I apologise for the inconsistencies you experienced regarding food and the posted menu. You are correct that any changes must be communicated to families. Your feedback has been shared with the leadership team and our kitchen staff to ensure quality, transparency, and accurate meal recording. I’m sorry that the Storypark updates did not provide the level of detail or insight you expected. Storypark should clearly reflect children’s learning, activities, and developmental outcomes. We will be working with the team to strengthen the quality and consistency of documentation, so it better reflects the meaningful experiences occurring each day. For clarity, our Exceeding Rating was awarded by the Department of Education in September 2025 following a full Assessment and Rating visit. This has not been updated on the ACECQA website as yet. We remain very proud of our educators for this achievement, as they work extremely hard every day, to maintain high standards. That said, individual family experiences are just as important, and your feedback gives us valuable insight into areas where we can continue to grow and improve. Kate, your feedback highlights important areas that need further attention and improvement, and I truly appreciate the time and honesty you have provided. Your experience matters to us, and we are committed to ensuring that your concerns translate into meaningful change. - Kind Regards Una Operations Manager

Our family has been apart of the Una community for almost 2 years now and we have nothing but the highest praise to sing for the centre. Every morning every child is welcomed (by name) by every educator who they come into contact with. We especially love that our children are given the opportunity to learn and grow in nature. The centre is filled with warmth and a place for kids to be kids.

The staff and director are lovely, approachable, and easy to communicate with. I feel confident leaving my two sons here knowing they’re safe and cared for while I’m at work.
