I have been very impressed with Mini Mastermind Schofields for my daughter’s transition into preschool. The Director and educators are always warm and welcoming to my daughter and to myself. Their dedication and care of the children at the centre is very visible and very appreciated. Communication between the centre and myself has been excellent, as they have made an effort to understand individual circumstances and have been very supportive and understanding. Highly recommended.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

At Mini Masterminds, we make your child’s education our top priority.

Grounded on the knowledge that each child develops at their own pace, we have designed a dynamic curriculum centred around the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) – Belonging, Being and Becoming. Our early learning curriculum helps stimulate our children’s development by exposing them to various activities and following up on their individual interests. By encouraging our Minis to speak up and through embracing their unique ideas, we can help them grow into smart, confident and capable individuals.

At Mini Masterminds, we set ourselves apart by offering a unique and innovative Prep School Program which we developed in consultation with an experienced Primary School teacher, Mr Jacob Camilleri. Our special program exposes our Minis to the correct NSW Foundation Font and focuses not just on the Early Years Framework but also the Early Stage 1 curriculum as well. By masterfully merging their lessons in Pre-school and Kindergarten, we aim to prepare our Minis for their next chapter in life. We hope that by building this seamless transition, we can better equip our Minis with the knowledge and skills they need in their new schools.

It is this complete reinvention of what quality childcare is, and how it is provided, that truly makes Mini Masterminds different.

By taking a collaborative approach with parents and the community, the centre encourages diversity and inclusion. This ensures that every Mini feels accepted and part of the Mini Masterminds ‘family’.

The daycare is in a good location . The set up for little one’s 0-1 year old is open set up which is good . Ashley has a big heart the one in charge of this age group . The staff are friendly. The director is very approachable and always ready to assist this is good. However some things to be worked upon :;- I noticed some babies cry and self settle if this can be worked on it would make all the difference . And 2 little ones get poops frequent and if not check they easily get nappy rush which can be really bad and cause a lot of discomfort to if this is also worked upon and nappy changes are done every often this would be great for little ones. To the director kindly follow through to ensure this changes are done to make the place a more happy place for the little ones as it already is . I must note I found most babies settled and happy in the many times I went to drop or pick my little one. Just the two observations I made that when worked upon will make the place even better.

Unfortunately, our experience with Mini Masterminds Schofields was disappointing from the very beginning, and I feel it’s important to share the concerns we faced so other parents can make an informed decision. 1. Enrolment Process: From the start, the process felt disorganised. I had to follow up multiple times just to book a tour and again to confirm the orientation. When we finally attended, it felt rushed and uncoordinated—not a great first impression for a childcare centre. 2. CCS & Fees: Despite having my CCS details, we were charged full fees without clear communication that they wouldn’t apply the subsidy like many other centres do. No interim discount or fee waiver was offered, even though other providers often help families while waiting for CCS to be finalised. When I called about it, I was abruptly put on hold mid-conversation, and another staff member picked up several minutes later without context. Though the second staff member explained the process, it was still unclear whether this was their own policy or a Centrelink rule. 3. Toilet Training Issues: My daughter had been fully toilet trained for over six months before attending, with no prior accidents at her previous daycare. At this centre, she began having multiple accidents every day. Clothes were returned with feces up her back—twice. It was extremely concerning. They claimed she was being put back in nappies, which was never discussed with us and directly contradicted her established toilet routine. Despite raising this several times, the issue persisted until her final day. 4. Hair Incident: One day she came home with completely matted hair and a chunk missing. Her hair had been tied up before arriving. I spent an hour trying to detangle it before having to cut it. We were told they don’t brush hair, which is understandable—but leaving it to get so matted and not notifying us is unacceptable. Spare hair ties were in her bag and could have been used to help manage the issue. 5. Cleanliness: The centre often had a strong, unpleasant smell, even in the mornings. It didn’t seem like the rooms were well-ventilated, and this raised concerns around hygiene and air quality. 6. Drop-Off Support: My usually confident child began getting upset during drop-offs. One day, while she was clearly distressed, two educators in the room didn’t come over to assist while I tried to calm her. Only one staff member (from another room) consistently showed compassion and support. The lack of comfort and emotional reassurance from others was disappointing. 7. Staff Attitude: Some educators barely acknowledged me during drop-off or pickup. I would say hello and receive no response—just a blank stare or being ignored altogether. That cold atmosphere likely contributed to my daughter feeling unsettled as well. 8. Safety Concerns: The front desk area is directly next to an open staircase without any fencing or barrier. When I raised this concern, I was told, “we aren’t covered if there’s an accident,” which felt inappropriate and dismissive. In a childcare setting, proactive safety measures should be standard—not something to be brushed off. 9. Poor Communication Style: When I once asked if there were extra days available, I was met with a short and abrupt response telling me to email and give four weeks’ notice. I hadn’t made a formal request—just asked about availability. That kind of interaction makes parents feel uncomfortable raising questions. If email is the preferred method, there are more professional and welcoming ways to communicate that. 10. Final Interaction: When I gave notice to withdraw my daughter, I did appreciate the attempt to talk through the concerns. However, the issues continued right up to her final day. I also didn’t appreciate my comment about “understanding growing pains as a new centre” being used repeatedly as an excuse by two different staff members. At some point, it’s no longer a new-centre issue—it’s a management and communication issue. I don’t leave negative reviews often but felt compelled to leave my experience for other parents.
