From the first moment I stepped into CSIROcare Black Mountain I was charmed by the homely, cottage style feel of the centre. Nestled at the base of Black Mountain, just next to the Australian National Botanical Gardens, the environmental imperative of the wonderful educators, and the centre's overall philosophy, is well supported by the physical surrounds (even the littlest ones in the nursery get to go on walks to the Botanical Gardens!). My child started at the centre 18 months ago and talks about his educators and friends at CSIROcare with warmth and happiness - we feel constantly assured and privileged to know what good hands he is in on the days we can't be with him. I highly recommend CSIROcare to anyone looking for a safe, stimulating, supportive and fun environment for their children.

My two-year-old has been at CSIROcare for just over a year and absolutely adores it. The staff are great and take great care to develop fun and interesting activities for the kids. The centre is located at Black Mountain with a large and diverse playground and a fun and bright interior. CSIROCare provides a healthy and well-balanced food for morning and afternoon tea as well as nappies, which is very convenient. My daughter always goes to childcare with a smile and it's a relief to know that she is so well cared for while I work.

We moved our son to CSIROCARE just before he turned three from another childcare centre and he instantly loved his new childcare. He quickly made new friends and formed a rapport with the caring, fun and adventurous staff. He loves the huge natural playground (especially the bike track) and the regular excursions/walks to the nearby botanical gardens. The staff enjoy celebrating different cultural festivals during the year, which is great for the kids to learn about different cultures. The staff (many who have been there for years) really care for the children and I look forward to my 8 month old baby starting there when I go back to work soon.
CSIROCare is a not-for-profit community-based early childhood centre located on the CSIRO Black Mountain site in Canberra’s Inner North. The centre is administered by a parent management committee. The centre caters for children aged 0 to 6 years across four rooms. We are located in a purpose-built building with a large playground that encourages nature play. The proximity to bushland and the Australian National Botanic Gardens allows us to offer lots of outdoor exploration and learning experiences.
Our children are provided for in a caring and safe environment by qualified educators and teachers with many years of experience. Most of our educators are diploma-qualified and we have four qualified Early Childhood Teachers and two educators working towards their Teacher’s Degree.
We embrace equality and diversity and have collaborative partnerships with both families and communities. We are a multicultural centre where Everyone is welcome.
We offer varied and inviting play spaces both indoors and outdoors with programs based on children’s interests which creates a strong foundation for their learning and development. Our outdoor areas include a large sandpit area, bike track, digging pit and gardens. We also take our children beyond the fence to explore the bushland and have access to the Botanical Gardens. Our extra-curricular programs include Ready Steady Go Kids Sport, Zen Music Circle, Recycling and Sustainability, A focus on embedding First Nations perspectives and year-round multicultural celebrations.
We supply morning tea, afternoon tea and a late snack for our children. We ask that parents supply lunch. Our kitchen meets food safety standards, and our cooks are certified in food safety procedures. We can cater for all children’s food allergies and dietary requirements.
