As a parent, I expected Kidspace Caloundra to provide a safe and supportive environment for my children. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. My 7-year-old son was involved in two separate incidents on the same day — both involving older children and resulting in physical harm. One of these left him with a visible bump on his head. I was not informed by staff at the time, and I only learned the full details after speaking with my son at home.
When I raised concerns in writing, I was met with dismissive and, frankly, inappropriate communication from management. Rather than prioritise my child’s safety and wellbeing, the focus seemed to shift onto my son's behaviour — which I had already addressed with him respectfully. At no point did I behave aggressively, though I was later portrayed that way in their response. Thankfully, I kept all correspondence.
After escalating the matter to the Department of Education and the Ombudsman, the outcome was that Kidspace was required to install CCTV across the centre — which speaks volumes.
While I’m grateful for that change, I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending my children back, nor would I recommend this centre to other families. It took too much pressure just to have basic accountability.
Children deserve to feel safe. Parents deserve to be heard. Sadly, that was not our experience.
