Putting my son in childcare was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made but then I was so blessed to be welcomed to first grammar Fairfield! Miss Gessika Tahan is an exceptional centre manager and every single member of her team is just as amazing, everyone from my sons room teachers through to the chef grew a connection with my son and he adored every single one of them, so much so he still cries wanting to go back to Miss Elise, however kindy is where his journey is now. Miss Gessika I just wanted to put in writing how much you and your team mean to our family. Iv never felt so at ease leaving my son in the care of such genuine, loving and respectful women! The way your centre up holds it values not only in safety but in respect, caring, kindness, love and compassion. We felt so fortunate that our son got to experience the opportunity to be nurtured and loved by your team. From our family to the first grammar family we appreciate you and your team beyond words can describe.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Preschool Space: 3 – 6 years

Preschool is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Preschool children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.

Throughout the Preschool year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Preschool year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Our centre offers seasonal whole food-based menus – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi my name is Gessika and I am the Centre Manager at First Grammar Fairfield. I began my career in early learning in 2009 and started at First Grammar Fairfield in 2011 having completed a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood.

I chose this career as it gives me the ability to shape our next generation considering that today’s children are tomorrow’s future. I love knowing that every time I come to work, I make a difference in children’s lives, especially when I get to see them develop and flourish under our care.

Throughout my years working in early childhood, I’ve learned that children learn through play and if they are provided with an environment that is challenging, stimulating and aesthetically pleasing, they will become confident and capable explorers. Children develop best when they are given the opportunity to engage in a wide range of different activities planned by field experts and for their particular age group. Therefore, my teaching style focuses on the holistic development of a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs, which builds a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and good wellbeing.

Having your child attend our centre is very important in preparing them for the transition to kindergarten as it involves developing far more important skills than writing names and recognising numbers. The children will learn to become independent, to socialise and easily build friendships as well as building their resilience.

At we are committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all children, team members, families and visitors. We have zero tolerance for child abuse and are committed to providing children with a child safe environment where they feel safe and supported.

We are committed to giving our families and children the best experience while they are attending our service. Therefore, we are well aware that this cannot happen unless we have a positive work culture that is focused on quality. We have a multicultural team and many of us have worked at  for over 10 years. We are a compassionate team who believe that our smallest act of kindness can put the largest smile on a face. We constantly strive for success here and reflect on our practices daily to highlight where and how we can improve both professionally and personally.

We are all passionate about early childhood education, have an infectious and positive attitude and are excited every day to be a part of our unique calling. We believe that there are endless opportunities when working in early childhood because children see the world in a simpler way and sometimes it’s the simple path that leads to innovation.

We acknowledge that the family is the most powerful influence on each child’s life and that children benefit the most when we work in partnerships with families. This is why our engagement with families start during the enrolment process where families get the opportunity to share with us their expectations, suggestions, information about their children and home lifestyles.

We have a coffee machine for parents in the foyer to enjoy upon drop off and pick up as well as some snacks. We also hold regular celebrations and family events so we can all socialise and get to know each other beyond what the swift daily drop-off and pick ups allow.

I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

We have been part of the First Grammar Fairfield family for over 7 years, and I honestly couldn’t speak more highly of them. The educators are absolutely incredible, so caring, supportive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. My children absolutely adore them, and it gives me so much peace of mind knowing they are in such loving and capable hands every day. Over the years, I’ve watched my children grow, learn, and truly thrive in this environment. The level of attention, encouragement, and dedication from the team has played such a huge role in their development and confidence. First Grammar Fairfield feels like a second home to us, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my children. We are so grateful to be part of such a wonderful community and absolutely adore every single member of the team!

When we first toured the centre last year, we were immediately impressed. The staff were all so welcoming, greeting us warmly as we walked through while interacting with the children — there was a real sense of care and community. While the centre isn’t a new build, it is spacious and thoughtfully set up, with open play areas for different age groups and large rooms for eating, playing and sleeping. The activities on rotation are fantastic! We were especially impressed by the centre manager, Gessika. Her attention to detail, combined with her genuine care for each family, really stood out. You could see how much families and children valued her — parents greeted her with smiles, and children naturally gravitated towards her. At orientation, we met one of the educators in our son’s room. Ms Shania took the time to interact with him and thoughtfully asked about his routine and development to help prepare for his transition. Since starting this year, our experience has only reinforced our first impressions. All of the educators are warm, friendly and genuinely caring, and we feel confident our son is well looked after. The team in the Bunnies room — Ms Patricia, Ms Linh, Ms Fadia and Ms Shania — along with floaters like Ms Lenda, have been incredible in supporting his transition into a new environment. The broader team have also been wonderful, especially during morning drop-offs, always checking in and helping to pass on messages when needed. We’re so grateful to have found such a supportive and caring centre. It has made returning to work that much easier, knowing our son is in such good hands. The updates have also been fantastic — it’s so lovely to see live updates of what he is learning. The activities are always varied and engaging, and we know he is thriving in such a stimulating environment. Thank you to all the amazing educators! We would highly recommend First Grammar Fairfield to everyone. Edited to add: How could we forget Ms Charlize! We know she is still training, but she has been such a delight — so warm, gentle and lovely!

We have been part of First Grammar Fairfield for several years, and our overall experience has been very positive. Our eldest son began attending when he was nearly two years old, and our youngest daughter has been enrolled since around nine months of age. From the very beginning, our son transitioned seamlessly, which speaks to how welcoming and supportive the environment is. At his graduation, it was clear to us how much he had grown in confidence and independence. He began kindergarten this year as a happy and self-assured five-year-old, and we have no doubt that his time at First Grammar contributed significantly to that. Whenever we speak with him about his time there, he remembers all of his educators fondly and still recalls their names to this day. We are truly grateful to all of the educators who have supported him so wonderfully through every stage of his development. Currently, our daughter attends this daycare, and our experience with the babies’ room has been exceptional. Despite her young age and limited days, she has already developed a strong bond with the team there. She has grown particularly attached to Miss Kathy, which is a testament to how caring and nurturing the entire babies’ room staff is. We would also like to acknowledge Miss Patricia, Miss Fadia, and Miss Marlin for their dedication and attentiveness. We’re always pleasantly surprised by how beautifully Miss Marlin does her hair—it’s such a lovely personal touch that our family really appreciates. It gives us great peace of mind to know that while we are at work, the team ensures our daughter is happy, well-fed, and engaged, even sharing photos of her smiling throughout the day. Miss Gess, the centre manager, has also been consistently responsive, approachable, and committed to addressing any concerns promptly. She is always very involved and creating personal relationships which truly makes a difference. When my son was attending, he would always look for her at every drop-off and it certainly shows us, how valued she is to him. We deeply appreciate her efforts in organising engaging activities and incursions that enrich the children’s experience. Most importantly, when we pick up our children, they are always content and happy—something truly invaluable to us as parents.
