My son was at happy hearts since the centre opened in October 2024. Since then the staff turnover has been around 90% with the centre struggling to keep staff to a point there is almost always agency staff in the centre, which has not been consistently communicated with families. They are also on their 4th-5th chef since opening and second director.
As for my personal experience, there have been numerous times I have witnessed really poor care from staff including staring at the iPads for minutes at a time not paying any attention to the children/babies in their care, watching children cry and scream at the gates while educators stand and talk with one another other than comforting the children. I have raised these issues in multiple meetings and saw an improvement for a short period for it to go back to what it was like previously. Multiple staff sitting around merely “monitoring” the children rather than engaging with them. This doesn’t speak for all staff but most.
I have noticed in recent months before I’ve been pulled my son out, staff seeming to be upset/agitated at each other which has affected communication. I’ve witnessed and heard gossiping between staff in car parks and at the desk in the foyer.
There was an incident where my mum who had a torn shoulder was trying to get my son from the carpark into the centre. My son was fighting going in and ran off into the car parks whilst my mum was struggling to get him. Two staff witnessed this, looked and walked right past and into the centre. Very unprofessional and made it seem like it’s only their problem if they’re clocked in.
On the Monday before I pulled my son out, he had been in the hospital the week prior. I mentioned this to the educator I handed him over to and mentioned that if he showed certain signs it was necessary I was called immediately as it could be life threatening and I’d need to take him straight back to the hospital. I made it very clear this information needed to be passed on to his lead educator that day. Upon pick up, I found out no one had been informed about any of the above, which again is extremely concerning as it puts my son in danger due to the lack of communication between staff.
My son has also been diagnosed with a speech delay. I had a meeting with the director an educational leader in October where a plan was set up to support my son through this stage. I was also suggested to get a speech assessment which I did quickly and had returned to them on the 5th December. In the two months since then, hardly ANYTHING from the “support plan” has been actioned, and the speech assessment I kept getting asked about, which they wanted to access inclusion support with, had NOTHING done with it. In two months. I brought it up 6 weeks after handing in and the reply I received was that they had plans but hadn’t actioned anything.
On top of this my son has been rushed through every room transition he had. I emailed and spoke to the director about having a slow transition this time as he struggled last time. He assured me he would. My son was moved in under two days. Additional to this, I later found out that his new lead educator and assistant lead had no knowledge of my son’s speech delay, assessment, support plan, nothing.
The lack of communication is deplorable. The menus don’t match the food the children have each day. The staff/director don’t effectively communicate important information. Lack of duty of care. There is no sense or feeling of community either. The list honestly goes on. I was really hoping for improvement, but I’ve honestly been let down and know I’m not the only parent to be.
Also there’s multiple reviews on here that are written by staff not the parents sending their children to this centre. The children of staff are favoured. I’ve witnessed their children in an other areas of the centre including sitting at the front desks etc.
Really disappointing because the centre itself is beautiful.
