Down the Lane Family Day Care is a warm, home-based early-learning environment located in Baldivis, Western Australia. Led by Diploma-qualified educator and regional award-winning owner, Taneka Gehlhaar, Down the Lane offers families an inviting space where children feel valued, curious, and connected to their world.

With over 15 years of experience in early childhood education, Taneka combines nurturing care with intentional teaching to create meaningful learning opportunities guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Each day is thoughtfully planned to support children’s interests and development through play, exploration, and real-life experiences.

Children at Down the Lane enjoy a rich variety of experiences — from nature walks and community outings to creative art, gardening with “Gma,” and story times under the trees. Excursions to local libraries, parks, and museums extend their sense of belonging and connection to the community.

Family partnerships are at the heart of the program. Open communication and trust ensure that each child’s routines, culture, and individuality are respected and celebrated. Down the Lane provides all meals, wipes, and educational materials, making care simple and stress-free for families (just bring nappies!).

Recognised as the Family Day Care Australia Regional Educator of the Year for the Rockingham–Kwinana region 2025, Taneka’s service reflects dedication, creativity, and passion for supporting children’s wellbeing and lifelong love of learning.
