At Next Generation Kindergarten, we believe families are children’s first and most influential teachers. Strong, respectful partnerships between families and educators are essential to creating the best possible outcomes for every child. We are committed to ensuring families feel welcomed, informed, heard and actively involved in their child’s early learning journey.

Staying Connected

Open and ongoing communication is at the heart of our relationship with families. Our educators take the time to build genuine connections and provide regular opportunities to discuss each child’s learning, development, wellbeing, interests and individual needs.

Families receive updates about their child’s experiences, learning and achievements through daily conversations, learning documentation, photographs, observations, digital communication and parent–educator meetings. Important centre information, upcoming events, educational programs and community opportunities are also communicated regularly.

Families as Partners in Learning

We value the knowledge families bring about their children. Parents and carers are encouraged to share their child’s interests, culture, language, family experiences, goals and aspirations so these can be meaningfully incorporated into our educational program.

Family feedback is actively sought and used to inform curriculum decisions, centre practices and continuous improvement. Whether through conversations, surveys, meetings, feedback opportunities or participation in centre projects, families have a genuine voice in shaping our community.

Get Involved

There are many ways families can become involved at Next Generation Kindergarten. Families are invited to participate in special events, cultural celebrations, learning experiences, excursions, workshops, community projects and centre initiatives. We also welcome families to share their skills, professions, languages, traditions and cultural knowledge with the children.

We understand every family is different, so involvement does not have to look the same for everyone. We provide flexible opportunities for families to contribute in ways that suit their circumstances.

When children require additional support, educators work collaboratively with families and, where appropriate, inclusion professionals, schools and other specialists to create consistent approaches that support the child’s individual needs.

Preparing for School Together

As children approach school age, our partnership with families becomes an important part of the transition-to-school process. We keep families informed about their child’s progress and provide opportunities to discuss school readiness, independence, confidence and individual transition needs.

About Our Curriculum

At Next Generation Kindergarten, our curriculum is designed to empower children to become confident, capable, curious and enthusiastic lifelong learners. We recognise that every child is unique and brings their own interests, strengths, culture, abilities and experiences to their learning.

Our curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF V2.0) and combines play-based learning, intentional teaching, inquiry, meaningful relationships and real-world experiences.

Child-Led, Educator-Guided Learning

Children are active participants in their learning. Our educators observe children's interests, conversations, questions and emerging skills and use this knowledge to create meaningful learning experiences.

Educators intentionally extend children's thinking through questions, discussions, demonstrations, resources and new challenges while allowing children the freedom to investigate, make choices and develop their own ideas.

Learning Through Play

We believe play is one of the most powerful ways children learn. Through play, children develop communication, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, resilience and critical-thinking skills.

Our indoor and outdoor environments provide opportunities for imaginative play, construction, sensory exploration, art, music, movement, literacy, numeracy, science, technology and nature-based learning.

Literacy & Numeracy

Early literacy and numeracy are embedded naturally throughout our curriculum. Children explore language, stories, sounds, letters, early writing, counting, numbers, patterns, shapes, measurement and mathematical concepts through engaging, hands-on experiences.

For our preschool children, these foundations are further extended through our comprehensive School Readiness Program.

STEM, Science & Inquiry

We encourage children to become researchers and investigators. Children are supported to ask questions, make predictions, experiment, test their ideas and reflect on what they discover.

Science experiments, gardening, construction, technology, sustainability projects and long-term investigations help children understand the world around them while developing critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

Social & Emotional Learning

Children's wellbeing is central to our curriculum. Educators intentionally support children to develop confidence, resilience, independence, self-regulation and positive relationships.

Children learn to recognise and communicate emotions, solve problems with others, develop friendships, show empathy and become confident members of their community.

Culture, Language & Belonging

Our curriculum celebrates the cultures, languages and identities of our children and families. Cultural knowledge, family traditions, community experiences and children's home languages are incorporated into learning in meaningful and respectful ways.

Our Arabic Language Program provides additional opportunities for children to develop language skills and strengthen cultural connections.

Children's Voice, Agency & Leadership

Children's ideas matter at Next Generation Kindergarten. Children are encouraged to make decisions, contribute ideas, vote, lead experiences, take responsibility and participate in shaping their learning environments and projects.

These opportunities develop independence, confidence and leadership while helping children understand that their voices are valued.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Health & Nutrition
Healthy Children, Happy Learners

At Next Generation Kindergarten, we believe children's health, nutrition and wellbeing are essential foundations for learning, development and happiness. We are committed to creating a healthy environment where children are supported to develop positive habits that can stay with them throughout life.

Our approach goes beyond providing nutritious food. We promote children's physical health, emotional wellbeing, healthy eating, movement, rest, hygiene and self-care as part of our everyday program.

Nutritious & Balanced Meals

Children are provided with nutritious, balanced and age-appropriate meals and snacks designed to support their growth, energy and development.

Our menus offer a variety of foods and are planned with children's nutritional needs in mind. Mealtimes are also valuable learning opportunities where children can explore different foods, develop independence and build positive relationships with healthy eating.

Supporting Individual Dietary Needs

We recognise that every child and family is different. We work closely with families to understand children's allergies, medical requirements, dietary needs and cultural or religious food preferences.

Clear procedures are followed to support children with allergies and medical conditions, and families are encouraged to keep educators informed of any changes to their child's health or dietary requirements.

Positive Mealtimes

We aim to make mealtimes relaxed, social and enjoyable. Educators sit and engage with children, encourage conversation and support children to develop independence and recognise their own hunger and fullness cues.

Children are encouraged to explore nutritious foods without pressure, helping them build healthy and positive attitudes towards eating.

Physical Activity & Movement

Active play is an important part of every child's day. Our indoor and outdoor programs provide opportunities for children to run, climb, balance, dance, stretch and participate in age-appropriate physical experiences.

Rest, Relaxation & Wellbeing

Children have different needs for sleep, rest and relaxation. We provide opportunities for children to rest according to their age and individual needs while working closely with families to understand their routines.

Children are supported to develop healthy everyday habits, including effective handwashing, personal hygiene, sun safety and caring for their bodies.

Healthy eating becomes part of children's learning through experiences such as gardening, cooking, food preparation, sensory exploration and conversations about where food comes from.

A Child-Safe Culture

Child safety is embedded throughout our everyday practices, policies, environments and decision-making. Our educators understand their responsibility to protect children from harm and to create environments where children’s rights, dignity, privacy and wellbeing are always respected.

We maintain clear child-safe policies, procedures and codes of conduct and provide ongoing training to ensure educators understand their responsibilities and remain vigilant in protecting children.

Safe & Supervised Environments

Our learning environments are carefully planned and regularly reviewed to support children’s safety while still allowing them to explore, play, develop independence and take appropriate challenges.

Educators maintain active supervision throughout the day, conduct regular safety and risk assessments, monitor indoor and outdoor environments and follow established procedures for arrivals, departures, excursions, emergencies and incidents.

Safe Recruitment & Professional Practice

We are committed to recruiting educators and staff who share our commitment to child safety. Appropriate screening, checks, induction, professional expectations and ongoing training form part of our approach to maintaining a strong child-safe culture.

All educators are expected to follow professional boundaries, child-safe practices and the service’s policies and procedures at all times.

Teaching Children About Personal Safety

Children are supported to understand their rights in developmentally appropriate ways. Through everyday conversations and educational experiences, we help children develop confidence to express their feelings, identify trusted adults, understand personal boundaries and seek help when something does not feel right.

Most importantly, children are encouraged to understand that their voice matters and adults will listen to them.

Online Safety & Digital Privacy

Children’s privacy and digital safety are taken seriously. We maintain clear procedures around photography, digital documentation, technology and the use of devices within our services.

Images and information about children are managed responsibly and only used in accordance with our policies, authorised purposes and family permissions.

Health, Hygiene & Emergency Preparedness

Our comprehensive approach to safety also includes effective hygiene and infection-control practices, safe food handling, allergy and medical-condition management, first aid procedures and emergency preparedness.

Educators regularly practise emergency procedures and review our systems to ensure we are prepared to respond effectively when required.

Working in Partnership With Families

Families play an important role in creating a strong culture of child safety. We maintain open communication with parents and carers and encourage families to raise questions, provide feedback or speak with management about any concerns.

We work collaboratively with families, professionals and relevant community organisations to support children's individual safety, health and wellbeing needs.
