The school facilities and systems are quite outdated. There's no heating during very cold days, and even on days over 30°C, the air conditioning is not turned on. The director often comes across as unhelpful and tends to avoid taking responsibility. However, the rest of the staff are great – they genuinely care about the children and are kind and supportive.

I would never put my children in this childcare centre. I witnessed a few young people who had clearly broken down and were in distress who managed to pull the car off the busy road and into the carpark and a women from the centre came out and was very rude and condescending to them. If she's happy to treat strangers in distress like that im sad to think about how she would treat the children

About Kingbird Early Childhood Development Centre - Eight Mile Plains

Kingbird Early Childhood Development Centre is privately owned and operated. It has been designed to cater for the needs of children and their families with long day care facilities.
We want to ensure that children's development will be encouraged, enhanced and supported in an environment, which will cater to the individual needs of 66 children between 6 weeks and 5 years old.

Centre Aim
The aim of the Centre is to provide a secure, nurturing and stimulating environment where children feel safe to grow and learn. Children are encouraged and challenged to explore the world in which they live, through open-ended play that develops their physical, social, emotional, intellectual and creative skills. Our environment is designed to complement each family and nurture each child through their early childhood years.

We aim to meet the needs of both children and their families. The environment allows for children to learn at their own individual pace. The Staff observe and record developmental progress and ensure that children are reaching developmental milestones. Children are encouraged to be active participants in all areas of the program. Staffs serve as positive role models and interact with children to enhance the development of all interpersonal relationships.

The Program
The Centre staff provides programs that are developmentally and age appropriate. Our programs are child-based and directed, therefore allowing children to choose the direction of their play and be creative explorers of their own learning. Our Early Childhood Educators provide open-ended mediums, challenging activities and an environment that allows children to be thinkers, problem solvers and controllers of their own play Programs are designed to incorporate children from all cultural backgrounds, additional needs and we advocate an anti-bias curriculum.

The Staff
All staff at Kingbird hold a tertiary qualification, or are studying towards achieving this. Our lead educators hold at least a Diploma of higher qualification, and all staff have their First Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Management certification . Each room has a team of two staff who are the primary educators for that group of children.

Food Menu
As part of the general program, the Centre provides nutritionally balanced meals each day, consisting of Morning Tea, Lunch, Afternoon Tea and Late Snack.
Meals are prepared in our on-site kitchen and are developed following guidelines of healthy eating by Nutrition Australia and Brisbane City Council.
Morning tea consists of fruit platters with toast, cereal, muffin etc. Afternoon tea consists of fresh fruit platters, sandwiches, biscuits etc. Both of these meals are served with milk or water.
Lunch has menu selections such a mixed sandwiches, meat and chicken dishes, pasta, noodles, rice etc. After lunch there is an option of yoghurt or custard. Water is served with this meal.
Children are offered choice at meal times and are encouraged to develop independence and self help skills. Kingbird children always wash their hands and have a high level of hygiene practices.
