My son has been going to Banksia for 3 years now and my daughter 1 and a half years. Our kids love all of the educators and so do we! They are always very warm and welcoming, and everyone always has a smile on their face. We love the programs they have in place, the green space and how attentive the educators with the kids. Highly recommend this centre!

I only have positive things to say about this centre. My child started here two weeks ago and I couldn't have been made to feel more at ease leaving him in their care. My son has settled in quickly and I believe this is because the staff are attentive and caring. They always take the time to discuss your child with you at the start and the end of the day. They encourage and seek feedback and are always looking for ways to improve. I love this attitude. In regards to the mosquitos, yes there are currently some around the centre. This is mostly due to the extensive amount of rain that we have been experiencing. The staff are working on ways to combat the world's most annoying insect and prevent the children from being bitten. I haven't noticed any mosquito bites on my child. A long winded review, but I honestly feel that this centre should have a review rating that reflects the wonderful staff here. 5 stars.

A nice setting at the university, good staff, just watch out for mosquitoes next to the pond there. They have mitigation measures for that, but my child still ended up with the occasional bite. Weird that 2 of the negative reviews are from people in Melbourne.

About Banksia Cottage

Banksia Cottage was established by a committee of dedicated staff members of Macquarie University who needed childcare services on campus. Led by Jean Joss they lobbied the University and successfully began building the Centre in 1992.

The Centre opened its doors on Monday 22 February 1993 as the Macquarie University Child Care Centre at Banksia Cottage. It was licensed for 60 children and gave priority to families of University staff. Professor Jack Bassett, Deputy Vice Chancellor, was appointed to oversee the governing Banksia Board.

In 1995, due to the increasing demand for Banksia Cottage's services, the University agreed to extend the Centre from three playrooms to five.

Banksia Cottage now comes under the management of Campus Life and is open to everyone but offers priority to University staff and students. It retains the community spirit that it has always operated with and continues to provide high quality education and care to the University community.
