From the moment I first stepped into this childcare centre, I knew – this was the place. The hallways echoed with the joyful laughter of children, and the classrooms buzzed with little figures full of energy. Every teacher knelt down to speak to the children at eye level, their eyes shining with warmth, and the children responded with smiles as bright as flowers blooming in the sun. That welcoming atmosphere instantly eased my nervousness as a first-time mother. I feel incredibly fortunate that time has gently affirmed my choice. Over just two months, my son’s growth here has been nothing short of miraculous. From clinging to my clothes in tears at first, to now greeting me at pickup with eyes full of excitement and security—his journey has been a testament to the nurturing environment. I know deep down that all of this stems from the teachers’ professionalism and love. With patience, they eased his separation anxiety; with creativity, they ignited his curiosity; and with countless hugs and words of encouragement, they made this place his second home. Every day on our way back, as he babbles excitedly or proudly shows me his paint-stained hands, I silently rejoice: *This must be what early education is meant to be.* To all the dedicated teachers—thank you. What you sow is not just knowledge, but a child’s first love and trust in the world.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Preschool Space: 3 – 6 years

Preschool is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Preschool children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.

Throughout the Preschool year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Preschool year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Our centre offers seasonal whole food-based menus – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi my name is Sue-Ellen, and I am the Centre Manager here at North Ryde Early Learning Centre. My career in early childhood education and care commenced in 2007 and I began working at  (Macquarie Park) in 2012. I am currently studying Bachelor of Education (Birth to Eight Years) and hold my Diploma of Children’s Services. I also hold Certificate IV in Business Management.

I was always interested to do teaching and it was not until I had my work experience that lead me down the early childhood path. I love that we as teachers can help a child to grow and develop so much in the first five years of life. And the relationships that I have built with children and families over the years.

Children are capable learners and as teachers we can help to support children through this journey. Partnerships with families is a huge influencer to what we do in the field, as parents will always be the child first and foremost teacher and we can collaboratively work together for the best outcome of each child.

Children’s education along with the care we provide is something I hold highly. Through support of the teachers and educators I believe that play is so important for children as here they can explore so many opportunities to develop holistically. We can lay down the foundations for each child for their life journey, as well as providing positive environment to want to learn that research shows will create successful learning outcomes in schools.

Early childhood education and care centres have dedicated trained educators and teachers who plan and provide for each individual child to flourish to their fullest. Attending an early childhood education and care centre provide social interactions with peers that they can co-learn from as well as building their social skills. The centre environment is purpose built for children to explore and house many resources for endless learning opportunities.

The health and safety standard and practices are the upmost importance in our centre. We ensure that we follow and complete all practices to ensure that the environment is safe for everyone. All educators are aware of their mandatory requirements for child protection and all staff ensure that they stay relevant with child protection training as we complete training regularly and all hold a working with children check. Read more about our commitment to safety here.

We have long-serving, multicultural team members who reflect our local community. Many have been with the centre over five years. It’s the sort of centre where everyone knows all the children, no matter which room they are in. We are such a close-knit team it feels like one big family.

Throughout the year we have many events and celebrations that we hold to our families together as a local community. We have a parent room for mothers who are breastfeeding, coffee machine in the foyer that parents can access at any time, as well as an open-door policy for families to visit and be involved when they can. The staff also support families through communications and to seek any further professional assistance if they need for their child, themselves or at home.

Orientation is where we build the relationships with families, from here we have constant communication during drop off and pick up times, as well as throughout the day via phone, email, or our all in one  Home. Our relationships extend further through those events to interact and get to know our families better.

A fun fact about me is that I am a mother to one girl and a big movie lover.

The teachers are wonderful and caring, and lead a nurturing environment in the preschool. My daughter had a fantastic time there and she still remembers her fun memories there. Every year there was a Christmas party. The teachers also have educational programs for example, learning the planets in the universe, which was my daughter's biggest memory, although she is already 11 years old.

My son has been attending this centre since he was a baby and now he is almost 3. He thoroughly enjoys being here. The educators are caring , approachable and very devoted have been working there a long time. Even the centre manager Sue Ellen responds instantly to any of the requests or queries made. The consistency of educators makes it so comfortable for us as a parent and our child. The outdoor play area is vast and has slides and many other equipments and is amazingly set up each day. The support my child is getting is really appreciable and cannot recommend this centre highly enough.
