Safety

Safety

Safety matters every day.
Every day, safety comes first at Nido. Across all our early schools, we work tirelessly to uphold the highest standards in safety. This commitment underpins every decision we make and every interaction we have with children and families.

We have embedded the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations across all our practices to ensure safe behaviours, environments, and accountability are part of everything we do.

Strong supervision and ongoing training
All Educators participate in an 8-week active supervision program, along with regular training and safety alerts. This ensures teams are vigilant, responsive, and prepared for every situation.

Safe design, technology and electronic devices
Our early school layouts are designed for maximum visibility and supervision. CCTV is installed externally at most of our early schools to enhance security. For the protection of all children, the use of personal devices to take photos or videos of children is prohibited for all Nido team members, students, volunteers, and visitors.

Rigorous recruitment and compliance
Our recruitment process includes enhanced screening, comprehensive reference checks, and clear expectations around child safety. Working with Children Checks are strictly managed and continuously monitored.

Professional learning and guidance
Educators receive regular training through leading Registered Training Organisations. Policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current legislation and best practice, ensuring everyone understands the behaviours and standards expected.

Comprehensive health and safety
We maintain secure single-point entry systems, and our staff are trained in first aid, asthma, anaphylaxis care, and food safety. We follow strict medication management protocols, a Cancer Council-accredited Sun Smart policy, and promote hygiene through engaging activities. Our schools take allergies seriously, including nut awareness, to help keep every child safe and included at mealtimes. Any incidents are documented and promptly communicated with families.

Programs

Programs

Educators and teachers aim to ensure all children feel welcome, valued and excited about learning, with a range of innovative programs.

Education: inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, the educators equip the children with the skills needed for school and beyond.

Wellbeing: through yoga, mindfulness, art and self-regulation strategies, the children learn to express their feelings.

Community: the educators encourage community engagement to foster belonging, empathy, responsibility and caring in the children. They also learn about diverse cultures, values and languages including Indigenous culture.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

Nido Early School understands that no one knows a child like their family. The service actively engages with parents and family members to ensure children have the very best care.

The team works with family members at enrolment and also regularly seeks updates on children’s schedules and current interests. This helps them to develop tailored programs that meet individual educational, physical, cultural and emotional needs.

Parents are welcome to chat with staff at drop off and pick up, and to contact the team at any stage via phone, email or the service’s ‘Playground’ App. The service regularly sends updates on children’s progress, and photos and videos of children during play and learning activities.

With an ‘open door policy’, parents are welcome to join in activities and events, and to share breakfast with children at the popular breaky bar.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

The curriculum at Nido Early School is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach and aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework. Designed to support the children in the early years and as they prepare for the transition to school, the curriculum is play-based and engaging.

The curriculum is delivered in three stages:

Nursery (6 weeks to 18 months)

In the nursery, the children are nurtured as they develop early connections with their educators. They read stories, play and explore the world around them.

The children start to develop their sense of identity and understand that they are part of a broader community. They start to explore their feelings and emotions and also try new things. Developing early communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal is also a big focus for the children in this age group.

Toddlers (18 months to 3 years)

The educators encourage the toddlers to develop their independence and autonomy. They have opportunities to build their social skills and early friendships while also learning to regulate their emotions.

As the children take safe risks in their learning, the educators also encourage their problem solving skills. Self-expression and communication are also important.

Kindergarten (3 years to school)

The Kindergarten curriculum helps to prepare the children for the big transition to big school. The children have a strong sense of self and understand their role in the community. They participate in peer activities and understand their own emotions.

They are always questioning how things work and practising their verbal and listening skills as strong communicators.

We’ve now been with Nido Hilbert for over a year, and we honestly couldn’t be happier with our experience. What started as a great first impression has grown into such a special and meaningful experience for our family.

A very special thank you to Caitlyn, Chey, Pema, Heena and Angel for the wonderful care, patience and love they have shown our daughter. It’s clear that they genuinely care about her, not just as a child in their care, but as an individual. Their kindness, attention and dedication mean so much to us as parents.

A very special shout-out to Caitlyn, who is our daughter’s absolute favourite educator. ❤️ It is so heartwarming to see the excitement on our daughter’s face when she sees Caitlyn and the way she looks for her. We can truly see how much she loves and trusts Caitlyn, and it means so much to us to know that she has formed such a special bond with someone who makes her feel so safe and comfortable. Thank you, Caitlyn, for all the patience, kindness and love you show our little girl every day. We can see how much you mean to her, and we are so grateful.

The most heartwarming part of daycare for us is seeing how happy and comfortable our daughter is there. Knowing that she feels safe, loved and cared for when she is away from us gives us so much peace of mind.

We also really appreciate the regular updates, photos and communication throughout the day. It makes us feel connected to her even when we’re apart.

Thank you to the whole Nido Hilbert team, and especially to all the educators who have made such a positive difference in our daughter’s early years. We are incredibly grateful for all the care, love and effort you put into her every day. ❤️

Couldn’t recommend Nido Hilbert more. We put our son first here when he was 9 months old. Initially he was very unsettled but with the nurturing and kindness of his educators he is now a happy little man there. The facility its self is clean and tidy. The children are welcomed every day and greeted by name. The warmth, smiles, education and care doesn’t go un noticed here. We couldn’t be happier that this is the place we send our boy to when we have to be at work. Thankyou Nido Hilbert x

Nido Hilbert has been amazing for my 3 and 5 year old. The educators are genuinely caring and highly trained, and it’s clear with how they care and educate the children including the relationship they build with you as a parent. They respond to each child’s needs with compassion and care, their response is consistently empathetic and nurturing. The centre is always clean and welcoming, with the smell of fresh cooking. When I pick my two boys up it is clear the the educators and children are relaxed and happy in each others company. Both my boys talk about the educators by their name and share stories of all the fun activities- it is clear that the educators have spent the time to build supportive and nurturing relationships with each child. As a working parent, it’s comforting to know my boys are being left with such kind and caring people. Communication is fantastic educators regularly share updates, messages, and weekly plans that help me stay connected with what my children have been learning to apply this at home in conversation. The only thing I’d love to see added is before and after school care, so my boys could continue being supported by these passionate educators. I highly recommend Nido Hilbert to any family looking for outstanding care in a fun and engaging environment.

I’m speechless about what I saw today. As a mother of three girls, I’ve never used a daycare centre before. My perception of them has always been negative—old, run-down, snotty-nosed kids, germs... just not for me. I had looked at several centres in the past for my older two, but never found one I felt comfortable leaving my children at. Instead, I used Roberta Jull (Private Residence), which worked well for us. But today, I visited this centre—and I’m lost for words. It is absolutely beautiful: clean, modern, elegant, and truly unique. The staff were all so lovely—kind, caring, and genuinely warm. Watching them interact with the children was heartwarming. My 18-month-old has never attended daycare before, and she didn’t want to leave. Honestly, I didn’t want to leave! There’s so much to do and see. I can’t wait to start her here. The only downside? Having to wait for a spot—haha!
