About Sparrow Early Learning Ashgrove

Located in the heart of Ashgrove, our beautiful service is set on the top level of Highpoint Plaza and provides exceptional early education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. Indoor learning spaces are spacious and bright, with huge windows offering an abundance of natural light, picturesque city views and a connection with nature.

Inspired by Reggio Emilia philosophy, our educators provide a holistic, play-based curriculum with a strong emphasis on natural elements and outdoor learning experiences. We celebrate each child as unique and focus our programming on meeting the individual needs and interests of each child in our care, in partnership with families.

Indoor learning spaces feel just like home and are filled with age-appropriate materials and resources that come straight from nature and everyday life. Activities are largely open-ended to allow children to follow their interests, use their imagination and stimulate social interactions with their peers and educators.

Designed to inspire a love of nature, our outdoor spaces provide limitless opportunities for imaginative and collaborative play. Children have a variety of  playscapes to explore under the protection of large shade sails. A bike track weaves its way around garden beds, hills, open green spaces and a huge wooden playground complete with tunnel slide, bridge and rock climbing wall and nets! Sandpit areas are complemented by an incredible water play zone for splashing and experimenting and our stunning Sparrow Tree is a much loved feature.

Our kindergarten program is led by a qualified and experienced Early Childhood Teacher. Using the QLD Government Kindergarten Guidelines ensures children are supported to develop the language, literacy, numeracy and social skills required for a smooth transition to school.

Meet the team

Hello wonderful people!

My name is Trudy, and I am the Service Manager, and Nominated Supervisor here at Sparrow Early Learning Ashgrove.

I moved from Adelaide on my own nearly 8 years ago, and met my now Husband, who convinced me to stay in Brisbane. I thoroughly adore gardening and finding new ways to be as sustainably minded as possible throughout our daily lives.

I have been working in the Early Years Education Sector for nearly 12 years now, and absolutely love it. I began as a casual many years ago but fell in love as soon as I understood the amazing impact we can have on the younger generation.

I worked my way through the many roles and found myself enjoying supporting my peers in their work to encourage, teach and care for the children in their care. Stepping into leadership positions has really sparked my passion, and I thoroughly enjoy being able to support both educators and families regarding the children in their care.

The first five years are crucial when it comes to creating a love of learning, which is something Sparrow, and myself hold dear to our hearts. To create a love of learning, however, children and adults both need to feel seen, empowered, and have trust in the space they are in. This is something I hold most dear, and so I hope to create a caring, fun loving and safe environment for all our families that choose to join us at Ashgrove.

I am very excited to take on the Ashgrove Centre and help it blossom to its true potential, to create connections within the community, and create a space filled with love and learning.

Please don’t hesitate to get in contact, I look forward to meeting you!

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

“The Sparrow Way combines proven international early learning methods to create a unique and purposefully contemporary practice designed for today’s society. Guided by the principles of Reggio Emilia childcare and underpinned by The Early Years Framework for Australia, we embrace children’s inherent abilities to learn and develop, creating an environment for them to find solutions through exploration, discovery and invention, marveling in everything around them. The Sparrow Way is our method of working with children based on these beliefs and principles.”

- The Sparrow Early Education Team

The Sparrow curriculum is thoughtfully planned by our educators and shaped by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Being guided by the EYLF and National Quality Standards (NQS) ensures we offer high quality learning programs that are responsive to children’s ideas, interests, strengths and abilities.

Programs are play-based, child-driven and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach with a strong emphasis on nature and outdoor learning experiences.  Educators carefully design environments that stimulate curiosity and provide opportunities for hands-on learning experiences that are reflective of real life.

Play is viewed as a powerful tool for children to explore, discover and make meaning of the world around them. Activities are largely open-ended, providing a wide variety of natural resources and materials which stimulate imagination and foster creativity, problem-solving and meaningful interactions with friends and educators.

Children are encouraged to express themselves through various mediums, such as art, music and dramatic play, allowing them to develop a deep sense of autonomy, confidence and joy in their learning journey.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

The Sparrow team values the role of families as children’s most important teachers and our educators foster positive and collaborative relationships with families. Parents are encouraged to contribute their ideas for programming, learning activities and the overall operation of the service.

Our inclusive open-door policy welcomes parents to visit our service, engage in discussions with educators and participate in children's learning. Our educators maintain open and continuous communication with families, ensuring a strong connection between the children's home learning environment and their educational experiences at the centre. During pick-up and drop-off times, educators are readily available to engage with families and gladly share insights into the children's progress, well-being and participation.

The use of the Storypark communication app provides daily updates, photos, and videos, fostering regular connections between educators and families. Parents also receive frequent communication through emails, newsletters, displays, notices, information evenings, special events, and Facebook.

Kindergarten/Preschool Programs

Kindergarten/Preschool Programs

  • Planned and delivered by qualified Early Childhood Teachers
  • Government Accredited
  • School Readiness focus
  • Transition to School program including school visits & transition reports

Sparrow Early Learning centres provide high quality kindergarten/preschool programs led by qualified Early Childhood Teachers. While the curriculum remains play-based, these programs follow a more structured approach to teaching and learning experiences to prepare children for transitioning into a primary school environment. There is a careful balance maintained between child-led and teacher-led learning activities.

Our Early Childhood Teachers cater to the individual needs of each child and in collaboration with parents, ensure that children are adequately equipped with the skills and experience required for a smooth transition to “big school”. Ongoing assessment of children’s progress and development is carefully documented and communicated with families and transition statements can be shared with future schools to facilitate a smooth transition to school.

Attending kindergarten/preschool at their familiar Sparrow Early Learning centre makes the transition from the long day care setting less intimidating and children can continue their early learning journey in a safe and familiar environment, surrounded by friends and familiar educators. It also means families can enjoy the flexibility of extended care hours and continued care during school holiday periods. All meals and snacks are provided, adding to the convenience for busy families.

My son is becoming an intelligent, empathetic and wonderful human being more and more everyday, and I attribute this in part to his attendance at Sparrow, and the amazing, genuine staff there that care for him.

Oct, 2025

We recently moved our kids to Sparrow Ashgrove and I do honestly wish we found them earlier. Transitioning the kids halfway through the year was scary, but Miss Trudy, Miss Jas, Miss Sophie, Miss Kaiah, Miss Ash and Miss Heather changed our whole experience and mindset of what long Daycare is *supposed* to be like. (I can't miss out on special mentions for Miss Nin, Amelia, Dani, Aira, Lija, Rachel, Sonam, Ruby, Grace and Morgan, and Mr G). This centre has set a new bar - and it's high! Our middle kiddo has formed such a lovely bond with the staff. (Shout-out to Miss Kaiah!!). The warmth, patience and encouragement from her educators have made such a huge difference to her transition. She always comes home chatting about her day and the people who make her feel safe and loved, which is such a welcomed change. The management team have been amazing from day one. Their communication and friendliness are next level and even when they’re clearly busy, they always take the time to check-in and make us feel welcome and supported. Miss Trudy and Miss Grace are very relatable, reliable, respectful and have been so supportive with inclusion options, staff education opportunities and are very open-minded to opportunities for staff to build stronger connections with the kids. (Eg. Circle of Security, Child attachment styles, etc) Our eldest has been in long daycare for four years and two other centres (each a very different experience). This is the first time he’s built those close relationships with his teachers and it shows both in his behaviour and the friendships he's formed. (Miss Heather, you are top-tier!!) Seeing how confident and happy he is now makes me so grateful we made the move. We’re honestly so thankful for every single person at Sparrow Ashgrove. From the educators to management, they’ve created such a warm, caring, family-focused environment and it’s clear they truly care about the kids. I hope as we navigate all of the industry changes, we continue to maintain these relationships to such a high level and that the centre continues to have a low staff turnover. It certainly shows in the attitude and drive of the educators whether they feel supported and appreciated, and our experience so far has been very positive in this regard. (We hope this doesn't change and the staff continue to be recognised for their high standard of care and dedication!).
