HEI was very good to my family for about 8 months while we had an amazing acting (temporary) centre Director who was focused on my child, and whom did their best to ensure their educational staff were attentive and also wonderful. My child was thriving and I didn't have grave concerns about his care for a long time.
Since then, about 4mth ago, it turned into a bit of a train wreck operationally.
The temp director quit because she was given zero autonomy - HEI Aus HQ undertook all hiring decisions and installed 'captain's pick', regardless of local culture and knowledge about the children, centre etc. Any red flags about some whom were employed were met with her powerlessness to act and in frustration, she quit.
We got incident reports without reasons (involving staff she did not want to hire), but whom HQ had greenlit.
We had minor injuries or rashes despite the child:educator ratio. We also had a child who was not appropriately dressed for the day's climate, at least three times. Stupid things that were not providing attention to details for a child.
We advocated for the temp centre Director to stay (because she's amazing) but HEI Aus HQ fobbed our concerns off and didn't even bother to address anything let alone meet us despite request to explain the complaints and governance process.
They then replaced her with another woman they imported while our temp director was on leave (after presumably waiting almost a year to sponsor her visa) from Hong Kong.
We received zero communications from the new Director, who couldn't even be bothered to email or properly introduce herself to the parents.
It's been par for course: neither she nor the Australian HQ talk to parents..... even about crucial operational things.
It continues even now: a fortnight ago HEIs local centre locked everyone out after (supposedly) there was a landlord/HEI HQ dispute that no local staff knew about. They are almost all now unemployed - save for the new Director and someone who was groomed as a quasi-Director but was unqualified in child care. The new Director has now been rewarded with a plum job in Victoria to direct a new centre. They won't even know what happened here in Queensland.
There's been a sum total of one email: none from HQ and none from the new Director to advise of what's happened and explain details about refunds. We have no leadership or guidance.
We don't even know if we're going to get our money back, in addition to having our children and ourselves being severely impacted by having no care and now, no leave because we had to take time off work.
I emailed the HEI CEO in Finland but do not have much hope. Australia's HEI HQ are ineffectual, lack leadership and basic communication skills. They also actively seem to reward professional incompetence wholesale.
Please consider avoiding this model in Australia, unless you like a challenge and don't mind a lack of communications and leadership.
