Dear Nido Mandurah Team, I wanted to take a moment to formally acknowledge and thank the team at Nido Mandurah, with particular recognition to Sophie and Lauren. Over the past four years, my children have attended several childcare centres, and I can genuinely say that this is the first time I have ever felt so acknowledged, included, and thoroughly debriefed as a parent about my children’s days. The level of communication, warmth, and genuine care shown by Sophie and Lauren has been exceptional. As a father, I understand that childcare is a female-dominated profession and that it can sometimes feel intimidating for educators to approach fathers, especially when not all parent interactions are positive. However, Sophie and Lauren consistently go above and beyond. They actively seek me out every day at drop-off and pick-up, greeting me warmly and sharing detailed, meaningful updates about my boys without me needing to ask or probe, something I have unfortunately had to do repeatedly at other centres in the past. I would also like to make special mention of the incredible impact Sophie has had on my son. While his behaviours can still be a little spotty at times, the improvement we have seen has been remarkable. Sophie truly understands him, knows how to support and redirect him effectively, and has developed a strong, trusting bond with him. This is evident not only in my own observations, but also in my son's own enthusiasm and attachment to her and the environment she helps create. Mornings have transformed in our household. It is no longer a struggle to get my son into the car. Instead, he is rushing out the door, excited to get to “green school” as quickly as possible. That change alone speaks volumes about how safe, supported, and happy he feels in your care. Please pass on my sincere thanks to Sophie and Lauren for their professionalism, compassion, and dedication. Their efforts do not go unnoticed, and they have made a meaningful difference to our family’s experience with early childhood education. Keep up the fantastic work, you are setting a very high standard, and it is deeply appreciated.

Safety

Safety

Safety matters every day.
Every day, safety comes first at Nido. Across all our early schools, we work tirelessly to uphold the highest standards in safety. This commitment underpins every decision we make and every interaction we have with children and families.

We have embedded the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations across all our practices to ensure safe behaviours, environments, and accountability are part of everything we do.

Strong supervision and ongoing training
All Educators participate in an 8-week active supervision program, along with regular training and safety alerts. This ensures teams are vigilant, responsive, and prepared for every situation.

Safe design, technology and electronic devices
Our early school layouts are designed for maximum visibility and supervision. CCTV is installed externally at most of our early schools to enhance security. For the protection of all children, the use of personal devices to take photos or videos of children is prohibited for all Nido team members, students, volunteers, and visitors.

Rigorous recruitment and compliance
Our recruitment process includes enhanced screening, comprehensive reference checks, and clear expectations around child safety. Working with Children Checks are strictly managed and continuously monitored.

Professional learning and guidance
Educators receive regular training through leading Registered Training Organisations. Policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current legislation and best practice, ensuring everyone understands the behaviours and standards expected.

Comprehensive health and safety
We maintain secure single-point entry systems, and our staff are trained in first aid, asthma, anaphylaxis care, and food safety. We follow strict medication management protocols, a Cancer Council-accredited Sun Smart policy, and promote hygiene through engaging activities. Our schools take allergies seriously, including nut awareness, to help keep every child safe and included at mealtimes. Any incidents are documented and promptly communicated with families.

Programs

Programs

Educators and teachers aim to ensure all children feel welcome, valued and excited about learning, with a range of innovative programs.

Education: inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, the educators equip the children with the skills needed for school and beyond.

Wellbeing: through yoga, mindfulness, art and self-regulation strategies, the children learn to express their feelings.

Community: the educators encourage community engagement to foster belonging, empathy, responsibility and caring in the children. They also learn about diverse cultures, values and languages including Indigenous culture.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

Nido Early School understands that no one knows a child like their family. The service actively engages with parents and family members to ensure children have the very best care.

The team works with family members at enrolment and also regularly seeks updates on children’s schedules and current interests. This helps them to develop tailored programs that meet individual educational, physical, cultural and emotional needs.

Parents are welcome to chat with staff at drop off and pick up, and to contact the team at any stage via phone, email or the service’s ‘Playground’ App. The service regularly sends updates on children’s progress, and photos and videos of children during play and learning activities.

With an ‘open door policy’, parents are welcome to join in activities and events, and to share breakfast with children at the popular breaky bar.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

The curriculum at Nido Early School is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach and aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework. Designed to support the children in the early years and as they prepare for the transition to school, the curriculum is play-based and engaging.

The curriculum is delivered in three stages:

Nursery (6 weeks to 18 months)

In the nursery, the children are nurtured as they develop early connections with their educators. They read stories, play and explore the world around them.

The children start to develop their sense of identity and understand that they are part of a broader community. They start to explore their feelings and emotions and also try new things. Developing early communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal is also a big focus for the children in this age group.

Toddlers (18 months to 3 years)

The educators encourage the toddlers to develop their independence and autonomy. They have opportunities to build their social skills and early friendships while also learning to regulate their emotions.

As the children take safe risks in their learning, the educators also encourage their problem solving skills. Self-expression and communication are also important.

Kindergarten (3 years to school)

The Kindergarten curriculum helps to prepare the children for the big transition to big school. The children have a strong sense of self and understand their role in the community. They participate in peer activities and understand their own emotions.

They are always questioning how things work and practising their verbal and listening skills as strong communicators.
