My son attended one of the family daycares under North Sydney Family Daycare, and unfortunately, we encountered several challenges during his time there. One of the main issues was that the educator consistently requested a medical clearance certificate for my son to return after he was sick, which added significant costs for us, especially since not all medical centers are bulk-billed. This requirement was not outlined in the daycare's policy. The educator expressed ongoing concerns about my son's health, suggesting he may have allergies and requesting multiple tests, such as a skin test, to address her concerns. This led to additional expenses on our part. Additionally, there were frequent discussions around sleep training and other parenting practices, which didn’t align with our approach, and we felt pressured to adopt views that weren’t in line with our family’s values. When we attempted to raise these concerns, we found it very difficult to get in touch with anyone at North Sydney Family Daycare to address the issues. In the end, I decided to withdraw my son from the daycare because he was unhappy and no longer wanted to attend. Since moving my son to a new daycare, he has thrived and absolutely loves it. As a parent, I learned that it’s important to choose a daycare with clear communication, an open-door policy, and transparency, so you can feel confident about your child’s care. Every family’s experience is unique, and I just wanted to share mine in the hope that it may help other parents make an informed decision.
