Archer has been coming to Mother Duck since he was around 8 months old and he has had many educators and has loved them all. You know you’re sending your child to a good place where they’re well looked after when they’re happy to go each morning.

In the infant studio, the educators follow a flexible schedule that is responsive to the needs of the individual child. Parents are encouraged to share their home routine with the educators, as they understand how important routine can be to children of this age.

Educators work to form a secure attachment with the children, as well as building relationships with the families. Parents receive a daily log from the educators which covers their child’s feeding, sleeping and toileting patterns.

The focus for the children is on those basic first skills such as sitting, crawling and walking. Educators seek to develop language skills of the children with conversation, singing and reading.

At Mother Duck Childcare and Pre-School Centres Kallangur, the focus of the educators is on reflective practice to ensure they understand all they can about children and their development; finding new and innovative ways to solve problems, engage in challenging tasks, and using information technology and print-based texts to find things out; giving children the gift of time to listen to their ideas and incorporate these into the curriculum; sustainable practices to teach the children how to be a valuable member of society; and teaching children skills beyond academics such as compassion, collaboration, empathy, kindness, grace and honesty.

The centre prides itself on their retention of staff, with some educators working at the centre for over 10 years; and the majority of staff have been there for 3 years or more.

I have a strong passion for Early Childhood Development and Education and genuinely believe in providing opportunities for children to play and explore to promote critical thinking, but most importantly, creating a safe haven for children to slow down, and just “be”.

Mother Duck’s own dietitian, Fiona Hinton, prepares the menus for the centre and has over 20 years of experience. Fiona specialises in real-life strategies and practical suggestions to convert nutrition advice into food kids will eat. Fiona has collaborated on several books, including one with best-selling children’s food writer Annabel Karmel, as well as training childcare staff in children’s nutrition.

Mother Duck Kallangur has a restaurant style space for the children which is open from 8am- 4pm. This ‘restaurant’ helps support children in being able to recognise and eat when they are hungry rather than all eating at the same provided time.

Morning

Tess is eight months old and starts her day outside with her educator and friends. The children are listening to the educator sing some nursery rhymes while she blows some bubbles for the children to catch. 

Lunchtime

Tess has finished her lunch with her friends. After a quick clean up it’s time for some stories before she is settled in the sleeping area for a nap.

Afternoon

The educators have set up some sensory water play for the children. Tess dips her hand into the water tub to help give the toys a bubble bath.
