Early May 2025, I have formally reported my child’s disclosure of being physically hit after a wetting incident while in care under the current management (my child attended this centre from 6 months to 2.5 years old). Complaints have been lodged with the Department of Education, which is investigating, and the NSW Police. When I raised these concerns with the centre’s new owner, my report was dismissed, and I received no follow-up. To my knowledge, the staff named remain employed at the centre. Since then, I learned another child has disclosed similar experience to their parent. During my daughter’s 8 last months at the centre, she showed increasing distress during drop-off, including daily meltdowns and anxiety. Since moving to a new centre, she has shown significant emotional improvement, and no more meltdowns. Previously, I posted a review about issues with unchanged nappies and empty water bottles. The owner asked me to remove the review to “give them another chance,” which I did in good faith. A former educator also reported witnessing rough handling and raised voices. She told me that after raising concerns with the current owner, she experienced increased scrutiny and believes her termination was linked to these reports. This raises concerns about possible retaliation against staff who report problems. I share this based on my experience and information provided to me. I do not make legal claims or accusations, and I understand investigations are ongoing with due process for all parties. I encourage parents to stay alert to their child’s wellbeing and speak up if concerned. I hope the centre prioritises safety and dignity for every child in its care. 11 August 20205 - I very recently communicated with the Department of Education investigator and can confirm that their investigation is still ongoing. The Police suspended theirs due to the absence of physical evidence and adult witness - the case is not closed and can be reopened anytime. The below answer from the centre owner is untruthful. 5 Sept 25 - the Department of Education closed the case due to the absence of physical evidence and adult witness. A formal warning has been issued to the Director of the Centre (whom my daughter disclosed hit her) as many people expressed their concerns about how she yells on children and staff.

Response from the owner 11 Aug 2025

Dear Reader, I invite you to visit our centre and see for yourself the warm and loving environment that the children at Happy Faces Panania enjoy. The above claim has been fully investigated by the Police, the Office of the Children's Guardian and the Owner. The allegation was determined to be unfounded. The Educator and the Centre were cleared of any wrongdoing. We will contact the author to go over the complete findings of the investigation. While this allegation was proved to be unsubstantiated by those authorities, we take claims of this nature very seriously. We are therefore providing all staff with education on the topic and their compliance obligations, through dedicated training courses and professional development programs.

We’ve been with this daycare for over 2 years now, and it’s honestly been one of the best decisions we’ve made for our daughter. From the very start, our kids felt so happy and comfortable there, and a huge part of that is thanks to her favourite teachers—Sue, Deepa, and Rundeep. They’ve been so warm and caring, and she absolutely adores them. She’s grown so much during her time here. Her love for reading and drawing has really taken off, and it’s amazing to see how the staff have encouraged and supported her interests. She comes home full of stories, new things she’s learned, and of course, with lots of her art! The whole team is fantastic, and we always feel well-informed and supported as parents. It’s a place full of love, fun, and learning, and we’re so grateful to be part of it. Can’t recommend it enough!

Our twins have been going to this centre since they were 11 months, and now they’re almost 5 — it’s been an incredible journey. They’ve grown so much, not just academically but socially too. The staff are amazing and have been there long-term, which really shows in how well they know and care for the kids. It’s a warm, supportive environment where our little ones have always felt safe, happy, and excited to learn. Communication has always been transparent and timely, with regular updates and thoughtful feedback on our kids’ progress. We feel incredibly lucky to have found this centre and highly recommend it to any parent looking for a place where their child will be supported, challenged, and above all, loved.
