About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and by experimenting. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play, water play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing!

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddler children can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn taking, developing self confidence and emotional self regulation. Our team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years

Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program encourages active engagement in learning and supports a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning. A child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's development by engaging in rich discussions, introducing new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations, as well as singing, playing games, and reading with the children daily.

Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, is supported through group learning environments. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Lastly, ensuring that all children are ready for the ‘big school’ by preparing them for all that ‘big school’ has to offer.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks healthy and nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating.

Our centre offers children nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi my name is Jessica, and I am the Centre Manager here at The Learning Sanctuary Yeronga. I have been in the Early Childhood sector for 11 years, I started my career in 2013 in Darwin as an Assistant Educator. In 2014 I moved to Brisbane where I continued in the Early Childhood sector as a Lead Educator, then Assistant Centre Manager and now Centre Manager. I have a Diploma and Early Childhood Education and Care that I completed in 2016.

I strongly believe that a career in early childhood education is one of the most rewarding jobs. As an educator, you play a huge part in developing beautiful children and shaping them to be amazing people when they grow up. As an educator, you are there for each and every child in your care to experience and celebrate all the big milestones that they reach.

I have learnt that the first 5 years of a child’s life is the most important, which makes it our goal as educators to mentor children and teach them about caring, empathy, gross motor, fine motor and communication skills that will help them in the future. I love being a part of a child’s journey, where they have accomplished and achieved so much, seeing this makes me passionate about my job as it gives me a purpose.

Early Childhood Education is a huge benefit for children to participate in when they are young as it encourages children to develop their social skills and how to interact with children in a safe environment.

Our team here at The Learning Sanctuary Yeronga, are a bubbly and cheerful team that always have the children’s best interest at our highest priority, we are a multicultural team that brings so many beautiful aspects and teaching styles to our children.

I am a very approachable person that is always willing to help our families to feel comfortable at the centre as well as the children who attend. We look forward to welcoming your family to The Learning Sanctuary Yeronga.

We have had our son attend the Learning Sanctuary Yeronga for the last five years (since its opening!) and we cannot be happier. It’s a professional team who have always provided excellent care. The facilities are great, the huge sand pit, 3 wheel scooters and interactive white boards are our sons favourites. Easy parking is a win. The onsite kitchen is excellent and they magically get a whole range of foods into our son that we can only dream of. The education program is wonderful, I have no concerns about my son being ready for prep thanks to the support of the team. I highly recommend TLS!

Love The Learning Sanctuary Yeronga. Everyone that works there is so welcoming and accommodating. I have never had any issues with communication, especially when my son started. I was updated in the afternoon by phone to tell me how he was going. My son adores going to daycare and has made so many amazing friends. The food is also amazing Mr Shaun the Chef is just as great with the kids (and makes amazing nutritional food) as the educators and management. My son gets so excited to see Mr Shaun in the morning he calls for him when we are getting out of the car. The staff have helped him develop his skills and come out of his shell.

The Learning Sanctuary Yeronga is such a beautiful and caring place. Our little one absolutely loves going there! All the staff are so friendly, kind, and attentive, and the chef is amazing — our daughter enjoys every single meal. The whole centre has such a warm, welcoming feel, and you really get a sense of belonging from the moment you walk in. Jess and Nadia are both wonderful — always helpful and genuinely caring. Our daughter adores her educators and talks about them all the time. We honestly couldn’t be happier with this centre!

Response from the owner 14 Oct 2025

Knowing that your daughter thriving at our centre and surrounded by so much love and care (and yummy, healthy food!) is the greatest compliment we could receive. We are so proud of our team, and we'll be sure to pass along your kind words to Jess and Nadia. Your kind words inspire us to continue providing exceptional care and education. Best wishes, The Learning Sanctuary Team
