We've had a wonderful experience with Birches, particularly in the Kinder room where my daughter currently is. The educators are warm, caring and truly go above and beyond to create engaging learning experiences for the children. Over the past few weeks, my daughter has absolutely loved watching chickens hatch from eggs, it has been such a special experience, so much learning and something she's talked about every day!

The children spend plenty of time outdoors which I really value, and the staff are beautiful, consistent and genuinely invested in the children. Special events, like Mother's Day, are always thoughtfully planned, with so much love, creativity and effort put into making them memorable for families.

Our daughter has been at Birches for two years now and we genuinely couldn’t be happier with the centre.

The Kinder room is fantastic. The Kinder teachers, Jacqui, Claire and Cathy, are so incredibly warm, friendly and nurturing. They go out of their way to make every child feel seen and heard. They are always engaged with the children and organising great activities that capture the children’s interests. I feel so comfortable knowing my daughter is looked after by such incredible educators.

The environment itself is light, well-resourced and there’s plenty of space for children to play. I love how they take children outdoors as much as possible, and the indoor activities are always well thought-out and clearly aligned to the EYLF. They often hold incursions and excursions that my daughter talks about for weeks after!

The centre director, Shamitha, is absolutely fantastic. Any question is responded to promptly and she is so warm and welcoming. You can tell how much she values her staff and how important it is that all children are thriving.

Thank you Birches for offering such a wonderful Kinder experience. We look forward to our younger daughter starting next year!

Our first childcare experience and we honestly think nothing can compare! Our child has never experienced childcare before and she adjusted so well. ❤️ You can tell that the teachers care by the way they reach out when something comes up. I also love the detailed updates on what my kid has been up to the whole day. Overall very happy with Birches!

Birches Ormond has been an amazing childcare centre for our family. We went through two other daycare centres before finding Birches, and the difference has been incredible.

Every member of the team—from the centre manager and educators to the catering staff—is warm, friendly, and genuinely caring. You can tell they love what they do and truly care about every child. Their focus on early learning, building confidence, and providing individual support for children who need extra help is outstanding.

Our two girls have absolutely thrived since attending Birches. We can see their growth and development every day, and they genuinely love going there. They adore their educators and are always excited to see them.

The children are constantly engaged in a wide variety of fun, educational activities that encourage learning, creativity, and social development in a nurturing environment.

I would highly recommend Birches Ormond to any family looking for a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place where their child can learn, grow, and flourish. We couldn't be happier with the care and support our girls receive, and we're so grateful to the entire team at Birches.

About Birches Early Learning Centre

At Birches ELC Ormond we strive to create an environment that is inviting and warm which creates a sense of belonging. We run an indoor and outdoor program that allows children to seamlessly move between learning environments and experiences.

Our centre is open Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 6.30pm.

We are conveniently located a short 5-minute walk from Ormond train station, and we are tucked down a quiet side street off of North Road.

We provide nutritional and freshly prepared meals daily. Our chef is able to cater for all allergies and dietary requirements.

Open door policy

You’re welcome to drop in and see your child or speak with an educator. You do not need to call and tell us you are coming; you are welcome at any time. We would love for you to come in and join in our programs – your participation is valued.

Programs

Birches ELC Ormond provides experiences for children to further their skills and knowledge on top of our curriculum. Whether it’s sports, music or cooking there is something for every curious mind. Children are exposed to various incursions and excursions throughout the year which are always a hit!

Pets

Our centre chickens Bok Bok and Bailey are much loved and provide children with a sense of connection, empathy and caring. Our chickens instill a sense of responsibility and curiosity in our little ones who are eager to learn more about nature and ecology.

Our Curriculum

Reggio Emilia philosophy is an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education, which values the child as strong, capable, and resilient, rich with wonder and knowledge. The philosophy rides on the coat tails of the innate curiosity of children and aims to assist them with understanding their world and who they are in it.

Our curriculum has been influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education and is developed in accordance with the government’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF): Belonging, Being and Becoming. Both are a child-centered approach to learning and value the child as capable and rich with knowledge. We believe that the first place of learning for all children is their home. That is why we value you as the first teacher of your child and build on that learning.

Developmental portfolio

We accumulate a collection of your child’s artwork, photos and record any observations made whilst spending time with your little one. This will highlight the development and skills your child has established over the time they have been with us. Our portfolios are a complimentary keepsake of timeless memories you will be able to take away from your child’s time with us at Birches ELC.
