About Choklits Child Care & Kindergarten Croydon

Welcome to Choklits Croydon!

Choklits Child Care Centre and Kindergarten has proudly been part of the Croydon community since 1995. Our child-centred curriculum, activities, and spaces are thoughtfully designed to nurture children's development and foster a love of learning, tailored to their individual interests, wants, and needs. At Choklits, we focus on providing a nurturing, safe, and loving environment that empowers children to explore and build confidence.

We offer care for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, using a play-based learning approach to let their inquisitive nature flourish. Our philosophy is rooted in ‘following the child’ by engaging with their interests and providing supportive guidance in their exploration.

Building strong relationships with children and their families is at the heart of what we do. We pride ourselves on a collaborative approach with parents and carers at our Croydon kindergarten. We understand the importance of children forming meaningful relationships and building a supportive community, and we celebrate every new connection or friendship your child forms.

Our purpose-built Croydon early childhood centre has spacious, age-appropriate learning spaces for children aged 0 to 6 years. Outside, large established trees provide natural shade over the play areas, which include slides, playhouses, obstacle courses, sandpits, water play, and gardens.

Our qualified educators, supported by our community expertise, provide tailored education for each child’s developmental stage. We offer dynamic learning through music, language, sports, yoga, and movement classes. Nutritious meals, often prepared with help from the children and ingredients from our garden, are included with no extra fees—everything is covered in the standard fee.

The program is a framework centred around six key health areas, which include:

Healthy Eating and Oral Health
Physical Activity and Movement
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Sun Protection
Safe Environments
Tobacco, Alcohol and Other Drugs.

The Achievement Program is supported by the Victorian Government and delivered by Cancer Council Victoria.

The program is based on the World Health Organisation model for health promoting schools and healthy workplaces. The program was developed in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education and Training and aligns with the Victorian Health and Wellbeing Plan and Outcomes Framework.

We are extremely proud to be meeting best practices for all these health areas at Choklits in Croydon and are particularly proud to be one of the very few early childhood services to be awarded in all six areas.

Meet the team

Meet the team

At Choklits Croydon, we are proud to have a dedicated team of over 45 educators, each bringing a unique blend of experience, backgrounds, and diversity to our centre. Our team is committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment for all the children in our care.

Led by our director, who brings over seven years of management experience in the early childhood education industry, our team thrives under strong, experienced leadership. Our director holds a Bachelor of Psychology, an Advanced Diploma in Community Sector Management, and a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, ensuring that our centre is guided by expert knowledge and a passion for fostering development in both children and educators alike.

In addition to our director, we have a team of more than five Bachelor qualified Early Childhood Teachers, each with a deep commitment to early education and a shared focus on creating rich, engaging learning experiences. Together, our team works collaboratively, supporting each child’s individual growth, learning, and well-being while creating a vibrant and positive atmosphere for both educators and families.

At Choklits Croydon, we believe in the power of diverse perspectives and experiences, and we work together to create a community where children can thrive, families feel supported, and educators can continually develop their skills and knowledge.

Health & nutrition

Health & nutrition

Choklits Croydon places a strong emphasis on providing children with high-quality meals throughout the day. All meals and snacks are prepared by our skilled centre chef, who ensures that every child's dietary needs are carefully catered for.

Meal times are designed to be a calm, social experience, where children can enjoy their food in a relaxed and supportive environment.

For breakfast, the centre offers a selection of toast, ensuring a simple yet wholesome start to the day; pasta, soup, stir-fry and casseroles for lunch as well as a range of fruit and veggie platters, cheese, crackers and dip, raisin toast, sandwiches and mini pizzas for snack times.

We recognise the importance of physical activity in supporting children's overall development. To engage and inspire our young learners, we incorporate a variety of sports and movement programs into our daily routine. These programs are designed not only to enhance physical coordination, strength, and endurance but also to foster teamwork, communication, and social skills.

Through carefully planned activities, we promote gross motor development, hand-eye coordination, and a positive attitude towards physical fitness. By offering diverse movement-based experiences, children are encouraged to explore new skills in a fun and engaging way, which supports their cognitive and emotional growth.

Our commitment to fostering holistic development is further reinforced by our alignment with the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC). We ensure that our programs and practices are informed by the key domains of the AEDC, supporting children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in a balanced and meaningful manner. This approach ensures that all children have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

Programs

Nursery

We believe that learning begins before birth, and our Nursery is a space where babies feel safe, secure, and encouraged to explore. With a focus on sensory exploration, communication, and learning through experimentation, we provide a nurturing environment where babies can engage with the world around them. Each day brings fresh opportunities for development through various play activities like water play, music, and story time. Our educators create an atmosphere where babies are supported in their growth, learning, and well-being through every new discovery.

Toddler / Pre Kinder

In our Toddler and Pre-Kinder spaces, we support the children’s development by fostering learning through play. Through a range of carefully designed activities, including music, dance, games, and reading, we enhance their sensory-motor skills and provide opportunities for cognitive growth. Toddlers are encouraged to explore numeracy concepts by building, sorting, identifying shapes, and participating in counting songs and activities.

Group play is an integral part of their day, as it helps toddlers develop vital social skills such as turn-taking, self-confidence, and emotional regulation. Our educators engage with the children through meaningful conversation, role modeling, and guided interactions to promote these skills and encourage cooperative play.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is an exciting and pivotal time for children as they begin to build the foundation for lifelong learning. In our kindergarten program, we promote curiosity, confidence, and independence through a play-based approach that fosters critical thinking, resilience, and creativity. Our educators create a stimulating environment where children are engaged in activities that support their social, emotional, and cognitive development.

We emphasise the importance of oral language development as the key to early literacy skills. By engaging in rich conversations, introducing new vocabulary, and incorporating songs, games, and daily reading, we help children strengthen their language skills, which are crucial for success in reading and writing. Through these activities, children gain the ability to express ideas, ask questions, and communicate effectively with peers and adults.

Social and emotional development is also a key focus, and we support children in developing self-regulation skills. By labeling and discussing emotions in the context of group activities, we help children navigate new and sometimes challenging social situations. Our goal is to ensure that each child is confident and well-prepared for the transition to school, equipped with the skills they need to succeed.
