My child is very happy at Goodstart Early Learning Garran, and we truly appreciate the care and support the team provides. The director, Assunta, is very knowledgeable and always keeps us updated. The staff consistently go above and beyond to provide exceptional support and care. The outdoor space is fantastic – plenty of room for the kids to play and enjoy themselves. I especially want to thank Anum and the team for their efforts in making my little one feel so comfortable and settled. Keep up the great work – we couldn’t be happier with our experience here!

Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre Garran is conveniently located behind Canberra Hospital, within walking distance to CIT and Woden Plaza. Our large car park makes drop-offs and pick-ups safe and stress-free.
Inside, each room from Nursery to Kindergarten/Preschool is designed in line with the Early Years Learning Framework. We focus on sensory and play-based learning, ensuring a stimulating environment where children can grow, develop, and prepare for school.
Our Storypark platform, family nights, and newsletters keep communication with parents open and clear, allowing us to tailor programs to each child’s needs, interests, and strengths. We celebrate the cultural diversity of our families, which includes Chinese, South American, Aboriginal, African, Indian, and Thai backgrounds, enriching the learning experience.
Outside, our three play areas feature sandpits, vegetable patches, a fort, cubbyhouses, and big trees, encouraging environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Meals are prepared on-site by our qualified cook, ensuring children enjoy healthy, fresh, and nutritious food.
Community involvement is key to our centre’s philosophy. We host events and excursions to help children learn about contributing to society and develop a sense of belonging.

Our high-quality, play based preschool curriculum is delivered by Bachelor qualified Early Childhood Teachers. Our teachers tailor their programs to ensure all children develop the confidence and social and emotional skills needed for a smooth transition to school. Through play, our Early Childhood Teachers facilitate children’s learning of important language, literacy, numeracy and creative skills.

As the children move through the different rooms in the centre, the curriculum evolves with them. The educators set goals for the children and celebrate as they reach their milestones. At every stage, the educators are tailoring the curriculum and goals to each child’s individual needs.

From child-led learning to sessions guided by educators, the children participate in small and large group sessions as well as individual play. The educators embed teaching and learning into play experiences, helping the children to make sense of the world around them. This is how the children learn about how things work and develop important foundational relationships and skills.
The primarily child-directed, play-based curriculum ensures that the children are engaged in their learning. They are encouraged to take the lead, developing their negotiation, risk taking, problem solving and social skills. The educators observe the children and help to challenge them by extending their learning and interests.
The educators recognise that every child is unique and that they bring their own needs, interests and strengths with them each day. The program is designed to be flexible to cater to these differing needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive at Goodstart.
Goodstart Early Learning uses the StoryPark app to connect with parents throughout the day. The educators upload photos and stories to the secure app, which parents can access anytime and anywhere to track their child’s progress.
The approach at the centre is very much based around partnership between families and educators. The educators work with the parents and carers to build strong relationships. They develop trust so the children can feel safe and secure while at the centre. Parents are also encouraged to share their insights and feedback with educators to add depth to the relationship.
The educators observe the children every day and tailor the program around their observations. They share these with parents, so they can feel connected to their child’s progress and also provide feedback that will further enhance their child’s learning experience.
Goodstart Early Learning employs qualified and skilled educators who are dedicated to making a difference to the children in their care. Hello! My name is Assunta and I am the Centre Director at Goodstart Garran.
My name is Assunta I am a mother of four, 3 sons and a daughter. Things I enjoy doing in my free time include nature walks, cooking, reading short stories and novels, and my favourite author is Charles Dickens.
I have been working in the Education and Care sector for 18 years, and I have been employed by Goodstart since 2008. I worked in Goodstart Braddon from 2008 to 2020 and started here in Garran in January 2021.
I am a qualified Early Childhood Teacher, and I am passionate about teaching children the skills needed for school and later in life. I use age-appropriate project work, Reggio Emilia, Resource for Infant Educarers (RIE) approach-inspired learning environments and philosophy. This involves creating and maintaining learning environments that are safe, respectful of children’s emerging skills and competencies, and respecting them as collaborators in their learning.
I support children’s love of learning by encouraging them to ask questions, explore ideas and discover the world around them through play.
Collaboration and partnership with families are very important to me because I use their knowledge about their children to develop the right learning, support, and care for the children.

My kids have been there for more than 2.5 years, excellent service, lovely teachers, very caring, now that we moved just last week, we really miss them all, we miss the director, Assunta, who is very knowledgeable, pleasant and caring, I trust them with my kids and highly recommend them.

As grandparents me and my wife flew in to help out our daughter and her husband in their transition back to work and from the day1 we were amazed at the very thoughtful choice they had made amongst the many childcare facilities in the area. HJ quickly adjusted thanks to very loving attitude of the carers and exciting learning activities. Their safety standards, onsite kitchen and personal attention by the staff is very impressive. Having seen our loved one's progress in three weeks of our trip we have all the praises and best wishes for this awesome facility and the people managing this 'no profit' based childcare center.
