What the parents say

The staff are exceptional.

Parent

After purchasing a house in another area I had to withdraw my child from care due to distance, a few weeks into our move I called back asking to bring my child back as I wasn’t happy where I had enrolled her and was willing to drive for at least half an hour to re enroll my daughter back.

Parent

From the moment I walked into the service I knew this was it, I was approached with a warm greeting and made to feel very welcome.

Parent

I absolutely love the outdoor space, my son is not wanting to go home with me.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

At Broadmeadows Early Learning Centre, the learning environments are welcoming spaces that reflect and enrich the lives and identities of children and families participating.

The educators believe the physical aspects of the centre’s early learning environment should support each child’s physical, social, emotional, language and cognitive needs. Through catering for different developmental needs with a range of activities and age-appropriate play materials that are changed to meet individual interests, and enable children to choose from a variety of options.

The learning environments are welcoming and inviting so that each child feels comfortable, safe and secure to explore, discover and make choices and decisions. All of the rooms and outdoor spaces are designed specifically to meet the individual needs of the children in each age group.

The types of play and activities that the children take part in include:

Role Play Bay

Here the children will be engaged in cooperative play, negotiating turns, exchanging ideas and solving problems. The home environment offers many learning objectives for children and supports their overall development.

Art & Craft Bay

Art and craft experiences benefit all aspects of children’s development. Engaging in arts and crafts allows children to explore their emotions and the materials provided. Art is a great way to promote children’s learning as well as the development of specific skills like fine motor skills.

Construction Bay

Blocks are an open-ended play material, in the block area children play together and share experiences. Blocks enable children to explore concepts across all developmental learning areas. Educators ensure the building blocks are inviting and welcoming so that children feel comfortable to explore and discover the possibilities.

Technology Bay

Being familiar and able to use technologies such as computers and iPads strengthens the children’s literacy skills. The specific computer programs encourage open-ended play that are both rewarding and enriching. Computers are an important part of today's society and provide children with a range of different and essential developmental skills.

Library Bay

This provides a variety of opportunities for further learning and development. The library is important as it enables children to become literate and use their imaginations. The library can offer children the time to engage in solitary play or group reading.

Dance, Music and Movement Bay

Children develop gross motor skills whilst engaging in dance, music and movement experiences. Music can strengthen the outcome of many activities and children engage in making their own songs and developing their creative thinking skills. Incorporating music, dance and movement into the program encourages children to express their feelings and emotions.

Science and Nature Bay

Science and nature enable children to learn facts about the world around them. Educators provide first hand experiences for investigation and exploration to develop their cognitive skills. This area provides children with a hands on approach to inquire about science and nature. Through these positive and sensory experiences, children develop a range of skills.

Sand and Water Play Bay

Children have a natural attraction to sand and water and exploring and playing with them. The educators provide children with time to explore these elements on their own as well as in group intentional experiences. Children begin to develop math and science skills during their play in water and sand. Sand and water play are also an effective method to calm children’s minds and bodies.

Health & nutrition

Health & nutrition

At Broadmeadows Early Learning Centre, the in-house kitchen provides a nutritionally balanced menu prepared on premises each day. The children love the aromas coming from the kitchen, especially the smell of baked goods made fresh daily.

Children are provided with breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late fruit snack, using ingredients that are healthy, fresh and from local suppliers. All meals follow a menu supported by Nutrition Australia and are prepared fresh on the premises.

The children’s rooms have fresh fruit bowls available for all children to encourage healthy eating. To increase the nutritional benefits, the centre reduces the amount of white carbohydrates and sugar given to the children. They use a lot of brown rice, wholemeal flour, and homemade vegetable spreads for toast.

The centre follows a progressive approach to meal time to accommodate individual needs of the children. Water is always available and encouraged. All cultural and dietary needs are factored into the meal planning.
