What truly sets Cedar Ave. Early Learning apart from other centers is how deeply they know your children—they can always tell when your kid is having a off day and will genuinely check in and tell you about it, making sure you get a thorough handover and update at pickup. We have been to other centres where they don't know your kid from a bar of soap - this is NOT the case here. The educators put SO much thought and creativity into everything they do. One of our favorite highlights was their amazing bug theme, where the kids got to use microscopes to look at real bugs, leaves, and premade slides to explore the wonder of nature. As a fellow teacher (science) I was in awe. They also go above and beyond with special experiences, like hosting visits from emergency services (fireys, ambos, coppers) and organizing an incredible reptile encounter where the children got to meet and touch animals like a blue-tongue lizard, water dragon and a small crocodile! My son was RAVING about it for AGES. The center brilliantly balances fun with independence and school readiness. They help the kids learn responsibility by putting their own belongings away and getting ready for the day, lining up, putting on sunscreen and hats. It sounds silly, but sun safety/melanoma is really important to us in our family, so watching them take it as seriously as they do is impressive. The facilities are fantastic, they've got a huge sand pit, mud kitchen, outdoor fairy garden with a couple of trees, slides, sports equipment like basketballs and soccer balls, and a water play area that they occasionally turn on. Whilst it doesnt have that much grass, they well and truly make up for it in other ways - their staff. That's why we've been there for 4 years with our two kids. We once changed to another daycare that had a chef onsite (we thought this would be a gamechanger for lunchbox packing), but we quickly changed back within the same month, as the staff were what brought us right on back. The hygiene standards are exceptional, kids toilets are always clean, they dont smell, they make sure of it, and our kids are clean too. They have excellent community and charity fundraising events — there's ALWAYS something on, from Mother's and Father's Day photo booths and home made gifts that they've helped the kids make, to Christmas picnics in the park. We actually really look forward to it every year. Proper. They make you feel truly valued as a parent, and are so helpful even when you have forgotten your kids beddings or drink bottle because you are running late. They just get it, and they just genuinely CARE for your kids.

Educators deliver a stimulating program that helps prepare children for school, whilst responding to children’s voices, interests and learning styles.

The inviting outdoor space features mature trees, lawns and vegetable gardens, and children can explore and create their own adventures with a cubby house, bridge, meandering bike path, mini trampoline and sandpit. The sensory space is ideal for learning, and provides a wonderful opportunity for educators to introduce children to nature, sustainability and the environment.

Programs

Programs

Cedar Avenue Early Learning celebrates child learning with tailored play-based programs guided by caring early learning professionals. The programs offer exciting and stimulating opportunities for children to grow in a nurturing environment.

Kindergarten Program

Led by university qualified teachers, the government approved kindergarten program supports children to gain the skills needed for a smooth transition to primary school, whilst nurturing creativity, independence and resilience.

Educators provide a stimulating range of activities that respond to children’s personal interests and learning styles, ensuring children can learn at their own pace and in their own way..

Kinder Garden/Bush Kindy Program

The centre actively connects with the local community and introduces children to the wonders of nature with an exciting Bush Kindy program. Children can learn about science and nature by exploring the local environment, tending to plants and watching nature grow.

Children gather and play with natural materials, and also help with planting, mulching, weeding, harvesting and cooking. The program supports the development of enquiry, communication, problem solving, discovery and collaborative play.

Sustainability

In line with the mission of “Connecting the world for a brighter future”, the centre has a vibrant sustainability program. Research has shown that the earlier children are given opportunities to connect with nature, learn about the environment and their impact upon it, the more likely they will be environmentally responsible as adults. The centre embeds the sustainability policy through a range of educational programs and practices.

Meet the team

Meet the team

The passionate and highly qualified team at Cedar Avenue Early Learning are dedicated to delivering enriching care and stimulating learning for every child.

All teachers and educators are fully qualified and experienced, with a broad knowledge of the childcare industry. To stay abreast of new developments, team members regularly participate in professional development opportunities and training. The team also regularly reflects on their knowledge and understanding of current theories and practices, and adjusts programs as needed to ensure every child is excited and eager to learn.

Mindful of the role it can play in supporting educators to deliver the highest standards of care, the centre also encourages students and trainees to complete practical placements within the service.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

The centre values and celebrates the relationship, values, input, and culture each family brings to the service. It looks forward to developing meaningful and ongoing relationships with children, parents and carers, and the wider community.

To ensure educators have a full understanding of children’s needs, interests and learning stages, parents are welcome to chat to staff during drop off and pick up or at scheduled meetings.

The centre also keeps parents and families up to date with the handy Storypark App, which provides information on children’s activities and centre events.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

The centre has developed a holistic curriculum in line with the Early Years Learning Framework and inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. The play-based curriculum centres on engaging programs that help children take the first steps towards a lifetime of learning.

The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy developed by a teacher, Loris Malaguzzi, and the parents of the villages around Reggio Emilia in Italy after World War II. It embeds the principles of respect, responsibility, and community into programs that provide children with the chance to explore and discover. Educators provide a supportive and enriching environment where children can learn by following their interests.

The curriculum brings together the interactions, experiences, activities, routines and events, either planned or unplanned that occur each day. Educators observe children in activities, compare, discuss and interpret observations together, and along with the children make choices about future activities for fun and learning. Children are encouraged to safely and securely explore their world,  guided by teachers who share their sense of adventure and “amazement”.

The curriculum also celebrates diversity, with inclusive programs that aim to remove barriers and ensure every child feels welcome, accepted and part of the centre ‘family’.
