When you leave your baby in an early childhood service, especially for the first time, you realise very quickly that it’s not just about the centre, the activities, or the facilities. It’s really about the people you are trusting with the most important little person in your life. And that’s what makes the Green Elephant team so special to us.

Starting with Katie and Mable, the Centre Director and ACD, absolute superstars!! You don’t just see them sitting in the office managing the centre. You’ll see them in the rooms helping the educators, in the kitchen cooking, taking the bins out, checking on the children, and basically jumping in wherever they are needed. What I really appreciate is how thoughtful they are. Whenever my daughter isn’t feeling well, they’ll check in to see how she’s doing, and they always remember special little moments like her birthday. I also love seeing the effort they put into celebrating their own team, whether it’s birthdays or other little occasions. It shows how much they care about the people around them, not just as leaders, but as people too. They create such a warm feeling throughout the centre, and I can only imagine how lucky the team feels to have leaders like you both.

Caoimhe, the Educational Leader, seems to have an endless supply of creative ideas. There is always something happening, activities, celebrations, events and new experiences for the children. Sometimes I wonder where all the ideas even come from! 😂 What I also appreciate is how intentional everything feels. You can see that the experiences are not just fun for the sake of it, but thoughtfully planned around what the children are interested in, learning, and developing. You can see how much care goes into making the curriculum exciting, meaningful and enjoyable for them.

Nao was one of the very first people to welcome us when we started. Leaving my baby with someone else for the first time was incredibly emotional for me, but there was something about Nao’s warmth that immediately made me feel comfortable and made me feel I could trust her. Almost every time we pick our daughter up, she has something to tell us about her day, what she enjoyed, how she ate, what she did and all those little details that we love hearing. It’s so special to see.

Shella has the sweetest, gentlest smile and such a calm presence. Welcome to The Green Elephant Early Learning and Preschool, Waterloo
Purposefully designed to meet the needs of families, our centre blends function, creativity, and care in a calm, engaging setting.

Our large, well-appointed classrooms are designed to promote collaborative learning, imaginative play, and strong social development. Children have access to a wide range of learning materials that foster both inquiry-based and play-based experiences.

Centre philosophy

Centre philosophy

At The Green Elephant, we believe children thrive in environments where they feel safe, valued, and deeply connected. A nurturing approach grounded in care, trust, and respect for each child’s journey. We see early childhood as a time of wonder and possibility.

Through play-based learning, we support children to explore, imagine, and grow at their own pace. Every child is unique, and we honour their individuality with thoughtful, responsive care. Our educators build strong, authentic relationships with children and families, learning alongside them and supporting not only academic growth but emotional wellbeing.

We partner with families to create a sense of belonging that extends beyond our centre walls — a community where everyone feels heard and supported. Each day at The Green Elephant is filled with joyful moments, quiet reflection, and meaningful connection. This is how we help children flourish — gently, intentionally, and with heart.

This is The Green Elephant Way.

A LOVE OF LEARNING
At The Green Elephant, we believe a well-rounded education extends beyond literacy and numeracy—it’s about nurturing the whole child. We focus on building strong cognitive skills, emotional intelligence, and a deep sense of connection to self and others.

Every moment is a learning opportunity, and our thoughtfully designed curriculum embraces this by weaving movement, music, languages, yoga, and fitness into each day. These enriching experiences are woven into our routines and are integral to how we support children’s physical confidence, emotional resilience, and creative expression.

Through play, mindful routines, and meaningful relationships, children develop the confidence, curiosity, and self-awareness they need to thrive—not only as successful learners, but as kind, capable members of their community.

At The Green Elephant, we’re laying the foundation for a lifelong love of learning—one joyful, connected moment at a time.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

The nursery is an extension of home where the educators cater the routines to the individual needs of each child. The focus is on creating a happy and safe environment for peer and educator relationships to thrive while the children develop their fine and gross motor skills.

The curriculum in the nursery room is centred around hands-on sensory experiences. The children are encouraged to explore their interests and discover the world around them.

Health & nutrition

Morning

Ava is 18 months old and an active learner in the nursery room. In the morning she enjoys a water play activity her educators had planned. She splashes in the water with her friends.

Lunch

After lunch, the nursery children have a music lesson. They play with different instruments to learn what sounds they make. Ava finds a maraca and dances enthusiastically while she shakes it in her hand.

Afternoon

The nursery children head back into the outdoor area in the afternoon. Ava heads to the sandpit before eventually deciding on the cubby house where she plays by herself for awhile.

We have had such a wonderful experience with Green Elephant Waterloo, and a massive part of that is thanks to the incredible director, Katie.
From day one, Katie has gone above and beyond to create a warm, welcoming, and highly organized environment. She is exceptionally professional, deeply caring, and always takes the time to listen and connect with families. It brings so much peace of mind knowing the center is led by someone so dedicated to the well-being and development of the children.
The educators are fantastic, the facilities are beautiful, and the communication is excellent. If you are looking for a childcare center where your child will truly thrive, I cannot recommend Green Elephant Waterloo and Katie’s wonderful team highly enough!

Fantastic daycare. Educators are caring and really go that extra mile. The food is fantastic and the management are very responsive and helpful. My little one loves it there! Also make me sad that some people took the time to write negative reviews about the noise, surely they knew moving in there that there is a daycare facility in the building/close by.. Don't be deterred by the 1* reviews, The Green Elephant are fantastic and definitely recommended.

We originally chose this centre for its excellent director and strong reputation, but over time the quality has declined while fees have only increased. Many individual educators were lovely, but high staff turnover, cancelled and scaled-back excursions / incursions / events / enrichment programs, and limited flexibility in supporting different children made the experience increasingly disappointing. We had a good run for a while but now for one of the most expensive centres in Waterloo the standard no longer feels justified.
