Curriculum and programs

Curriculum and programs

The educators at Goodstart Early Learning follow an evidence-based curriculum that aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework. Informed by world-leading research, practices and techniques, the curriculum encourages the children’s natural curiosity and engages them in their learning journey.

As the children move through the different rooms in the centre, the curriculum evolves with them. The educators set goals for the children and celebrate as they reach their milestones. At every stage, the educators are tailoring the curriculum and goals to each child’s individual needs.

The curriculum involves different types of learning experiences and styles. From child-led learning to sessions guided by educators, the children participate in small and large group sessions as well as individual play. Most importantly, the children learn through play, developing social skills, confidence and independence in addition to more formal academic skills.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

Goodstart Early Learning uses the StoryPark app to connect with parents throughout the day. The educators upload photos and stories to the secure app, which parents can access anytime and anywhere to track their child’s progress.

The approach at the centre is very much based around partnership between families and educators. The educators work with the parents and carers to build strong relationships. They develop trust so the children can feel safe and secure while at the centre. Parents are also encouraged to share their insights and feedback with educators to add depth to the relationship.

The educators observe the children every day and tailor the program around their observations. They share these with parents, so they can feel connected to their child’s progress and also provide feedback that will further enhance their child’s learning experience.

UPDATE: This review relates to Goodstart Browns Plains – Wembley Road. I originally posted it against the other Goodstart centre in the same complex by mistake.

I’m very disappointed with how management handled concerns during my son’s enrolment.

One major issue began when I emailed the centre after pickup because my son had a noticeable red mark and skin irritation on the inside of his arm. I simply asked whether staff knew what may have caused it. I did not accuse anyone of hurting him—I was asking a reasonable question about an unexplained mark on my child.

Instead of directly answering whether anything had happened during the day, the conversation was shifted to a jewellery policy. Management said the policy had come through on 1 May but had only just been reviewed approximately 18 days later. I was told they had been reviewing risk assessments and that jewellery had been identified as an issue during that process, but this still did not answer my original question about my son’s arm.

Another staff member then became involved and was described as the centre’s “Safety Champion.” I had to ask who she was, why she was involved and what her role was in relation to my son. My son’s father was also copied into the discussion, even though my original email was simply asking whether staff knew how the mark occurred.

This became a recurring pattern. Whenever I raised a concern or asked the centre director a specific question she could not answer, it appeared to be palmed off to her second-in-charge or another staff member. Rather than receiving a clear answer, I would often be given another form, risk assessment or piece of paperwork to complete. This made straightforward concerns unnecessarily complicated and placed more work on me without actually resolving the issue I had raised.

I also made a complaint after a $100 account cap was added without my knowledge or clear authorisation. Goodstart later acknowledged that the cap would normally be applied at the commencement of enrolment, that this step had been missed and that the change may not have been clearly explained to me. However, my specific questions about who applied it, when it was applied, where I had authorised it and when I was informed were still not answered.

There were also issues involving a credit being transferred between Goodstart accounts and ongoing confusion about fees and account balances.

After raising concerns, I felt the atmosphere towards me and my son changed. There were occasions when staff appeared cold or dismissive. I observed my son being left out while other children’s names were called and they were given high-fives. He was also returned to me with food still covering his face, and on another occasion staff laughed while telling me he had fallen asleep while eating.

Some educators were caring, and I understand childcare environments can be busy. However, management’s lack of direct answers, poor communication and repeated redirection of concerns caused me to lose trust in the centre.

Parents should be able to ask clear and reasonable questions about unexplained marks on their child, centre policies and account changes without being passed between staff, given additional paperwork or made to feel that their treatment changes afterward.

I truly couldn’t have asked for a better child care centre for my son. He has ADHD, and the level of understanding, patience, and genuine care shown by the staff has meant more to our family than words can express. Their knowledge and support are second to none, and they have gone above and beyond to help my son feel safe, understood, and confident every single day. Every staff member is incredible — from the office team to the educators in every room — and it’s clear how deeply they care about the children and families they support. After a very difficult experience with a previous centre, moving my son here was the best decision I have ever made & I will be forever grateful for everything they’ve done for us. I cannot recommend this centre highly enough.

Our daughter HayHay has just started at Goodstart and the transition from a clingy mama and dadas girl was a breeze with our team here GS Brownsplains. In a short time she has become very comfortable with her educators and the environment. She has been thriving and chatting away about how much she loves her teachers and all the fun things they do. We are helicopter parents, like any parent you just want to know your child is safe and happy. GS Brownsplains have given us this reassurance and more. Thank you for being kind and patient with us too. Highly recommend.

I highly recommend this daycare! In the few short years my son has attended, he has had the most incredible experience. The kindness, care, and warm, nurturing environment has helped him thrive in so many ways. I’m endlessly grateful to Miss Di and Miss Kelly for creating such a safe and supportive space where he’s been able to grow his confidence, curiosity, and social skills. All the educators are genuinely amazing and compassionate, making the daycare feel like a true second home for our family.

Amazing daycare centre. The staff are fantastic, and they genuinely care and want the best for your children. My children have attended since nursery through to kindy and the staff have become like a second family. I am so grateful for them. Highly recommend.
