Buttercups Highgate was an unforgettable experience during my Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care work placement.
Before starting my placement, I was very nervous about whether I could be a good educator, as I had just finished my first term of the course. Luckily, I met a wonderful manager, Emily, who gave me a detailed tour of the centre and spent an hour with me on induction day explaining everything clearly and introducing me to all the staff.
I was placed in the Kindy room (3–5 years), where I met adorable children who always welcomed me warmly and enjoyed the activities I planned. When they liked my craft setups, they would often ask to take their creations home—which I was always happy to say yes to!
At the beginning of my placement, it was winter, and I had to take some sick days. I was worried about missing time, but the centre was very understanding. The manager helped me arrange make-up days, and she was supportive and positive about my efforts, which made me feel a strong sense of belonging.
I still need to complete my next placement in the babies' room (under 2 years), and I would be more than happy to return to Buttercups Highgate.
With love,
