I have two children at the centre aged 1 and 2 and they adore the place. We can’t drive past without screams or excitement on the weekend! Impressive facilities and the educators make you feel like your child is their absolute favourite.

About Birches ELC Frankston South

Birches ELC Frankston South is a family owned childcare centre and kindergarten. Our new early learning centre is surrounded by abundant and natural play spaces that offer a truly organic learning environment.

Birches provides both care and education within a long day care setting and caters for the littlest of enrolees in the Nursery through to the 4 Year Old Kindergarten group who develop their school readiness skills under the supportive wing of our Early Childhood Teacher.

Our Philosophy

Birches has a commitment to “raising the bar” in early education and we work tirelessly to deliver exceptional quality care and education for every child, every day. Our educational philosophies are under-pinned by the widely respected Reggio Emilia approach to learning which supports enquiry and play-based learning experiences in natural and responsive environments. Our learning programs are designed to be emergent in nature and, through reflective practices, are guided by the children’s interests and needs.

Qualified, Experienced and Dedicated Staff

At Birches we believe our team of Early Childhood educators are our most valuable assets and we could not achieve our goals or honour our philosophies without their knowledge, support and hard work. Our team understand the responsibility that comes with the role of an educator and are committed to ensuring that every child not only enjoys their time with us, but has been exposed to every available developmental and learning opportunity.

Our team approach ensures the individual and collective needs of the children are met in a harmonious and friendly environment with familiarity and continuality.

Flexible Hours

We offer 9, 10 and 12 hour sessions to optimise your childcare subsidy. For a quote please call us on 8785 7888.

Programs

Programs

We welcome children from 6 weeks to 6 years, with rooms grouped to suit every stage of development from nursery through to our funded kindergarten program. Our programs are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which means children are seen as capable, curious learners who lead their own discovery. Rather than following a rigid schedule, our educators observe each child's interests and build rich, play based learning experiences around them, with our natural indoor and outdoor environments acting as the third teacher.
Every month children enjoy a different incursion at no extra cost to families, bringing new experiences, performers and hands-on discovery straight into the centre. On top of this, our children take part in weekly sport and music programs, regular cooking classes where they prepare and taste their own creations, and an extensive STEM program that nurtures early skills in science, technology, engineering and maths through experimentation and play. Our school readiness program ensures every child transitions to primary school with confidence, and families stay connected through daily updates and photos on our parent communication app.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

Our philosophy centres on belonging within a safe, warm and caring environment, built on secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships between children, families and educators. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we see every child as capable, curious and full of potential, with our educators nurturing each child's interests through play based, enquiry led learning in thoughtfully designed natural environments. We believe childhood is a journey to be treasured, not rushed, and we partner closely with families to guide children into becoming confident, creative and compassionate members of their community. Birches Clayton is family owned and operated, and that means something different here. Our owners are hands on and involved in the centre every day, and our own children attend Birches, so every decision we make is one we would make for our own families.

Safety

Safety

Child safety underpins everything we do. We maintain educator to child ratios that meet or exceed National Regulations, all team members hold current first aid training, and secure entry keeps our centre safe throughout the day. Our policies and practices align with the Victorian Child Safe Standards, and our team completes regular professional development to stay at the forefront of safe practice. Thorough referee checks and onboarding processes ensure every educator is fully vetted before they start at Birches. And as a family owned business, our own children attend Birches too, so we understand firsthand what parents want in a safe environment for the most precious people in their lives.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

You won't believe what your child will eat at Birches. We have watched children polish off three bowls of fish curry at the centre, something their parents swear they would never touch at home. You truly won't believe it until you see it!
Nutrition matters for growing minds and bodies, and mealtimes at Birches are one of the highlights of every child's day. Our fully equipped kitchen allows our talented chef to prepare all meals fresh on site every day, filling the centre with the delicious aroma of home cooking. From chicken pasta bake and tuna mornay to our famous muesli slice, our carefully curated four-week rotating menu offers variety that tempts even the fussiest of eaters, with generous servings to keep little tummies full and satisfied. Milk and water are offered with every meal to support growing bones, and we have a strict no junk food policy so children fuel their bodies with the wholesome nutrition they need to learn, play and thrive.
Every allergy and dietary requirement is catered for with care, and our menus are designed to support children's concentration, development and overall wellbeing throughout the day. Our family has been part of the Birches Early Learning Frankston South community for 18 months. From our first enquiry just as the centre was about to open, we felt a connection to the community and were very grateful that our child was offered a place to begin their education. We've had, and continue to have, a wonderful journey at Birches. The management team, the educators and staff are all incredibly warm, kind, caring, understanding and just genuinely lovely human beings that have created a safe and loving environment for all the children who attend this centre. A very special mention of Annette, Sara, Prue and Cass who have taken our child through their first 18 months – you have all become incredibly special people to our child and to us.

Our child goes to Birches happily every day, saying "yay" when we tell them it's a 'daycare day', running into the centre to be with their educators and friends. Thank-you Birches for welcoming us into your community, we couldn't be happier to be part of the family!

I went to a couple of tours for daycare being a first time parent.
When I walked into Birches in Frankston South it had such a fresh, warm and inviting feel to it, I toured a couple more places but nothing compared.
My little one is in nursery one and Annette and Sara are wonderful, they do some great activities and my little girl has developed so much in the 6 or so months she’s been there. I’ve also interacted with a couple of the other educators in the centre and I feel so comfortable and confident my little girl will be in great hands as she grows!
If you’re looking for a daycare I couldn’t recommend the lovely team at Birches enough!!

Our daughter is in nursery 2. We absolutely love her educators Prue and Cass, they are outstanding, always attentive, very approachable, caring and accommodating. All the kids gravitate towards them.

Our son has attended Birches since opening, and it's been wonderful watching the centre grow into such a well-run and welcoming community. Every educator we've met is kind, genuine and approachable. As a shy mummy's boy, he's always excited to go, which says everything.

The team made those emotional drop-offs so much easier, often calling shortly after I left to let me know he'd settled (and that the tears were just for Mum!). They've also been incredibly supportive through his transition to the Pre-Kinder room, ensuring it happened at his pace.

From cooking classes with the chef to visits from fire trucks, there's always something exciting happening. What stands out most, though, is how every staff member knows the children so well, remembering their interests, family updates and weekend adventures. Birches truly feels like a community, and we're so grateful to be part of it. ❤️
